Action Alerts ! IMC CONDEMNS THE MASSACRE OF WORSHIPPERS IN GUJARAT Phone/Fax Campaign (Print, Distribute and Act !) Activism NHRC Petition against the Gujarat Government's Inaction Petition condemning the violence against Gujarat women Open letter to president of India The complete report on Gujarat Massacres Ethnic Cleansing in India (View Brochure) Muslims in India (and other minorities) have been brutalized since 1947 through 13,356 serious anti-muslim riots between 1954-92. The most recent of such pogroms was carried out in the state of Gujarat in the beginning of march 2002. In Gujarat today we have reached a level of genocide that shocks the whole world even after the attack on the World Trade Centre and the bombing of Afghanistan. This is surely no matter for national pride. The burning ground of Gujarat today is the scene of planned genocide. It has been established from leading media observers, subsequent independent inquiry commisions (SAHMAT), the National Human Rights Council (NHRC), the US based Human Rights Watch (report), that the massacres in Gujarat were planned and not sponataneous ('Riots were planned', UK mission to Gujarat). It has also been established by the same agencies that the Massacres were led by World Hindu Council leaders in connivance with the police and elected state officials. The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, defending his inability or rather unwillingness to curb the violence, quoted the English scientist Newton, "For every action", he said "there is an equal and opposite reaction". Read the indictments against the persons accused. Hindutva Fascism (View Pictures) The World Hindu Council (a.k.a Vishwa Hindu Parishad) along with other extremist groups are a clear threat to the lives of innocent civilians and in recent years there have been pogroms and attacks against various minorities, most notably but not solely Muslims, Christians and Sikhs. The same groups are also responsible for burning churches, killing priests and missionaries (eg. Graham Staines, a christian missionary from Australia, and his family were torched alive) and raping of nuns. Lower caste hindus have also found themselves bearing the brunt of violence and religious discrimination as religious and racial prejudice permeates the institutions of government in India. The World Hindu Council has threatened to repeat the carnage of Gujarat in other parts of India and have also vowed to overthrow the secular creed of India. |
