This is Droethia Labyrinth, on Keandyn Isle. It is on the planet Terria, a planet that circles three suns, with five moons that circle it. Its a huge island on the tiny planet- the only land. Well, not counting numerous smaller islands scattered nearby. Keandyn is heavily forested to the north, mountainess to the east, and mostly open grasslands everywhere else. The beaches surround the land-obviously, since its an island and all. The closest of the suns, Lur, heats the sands of these beaches so that if a human were to step on them with bare feet, they would run screaming away on feet covered in burns and blisters.
The people that reside on Keandyn Isle live in the different areas, and do their jobs for those areas- there are farmers, miners, carpenters, hunters, fishermen, and the one that every small child dreams of becoming- a Dragoner.
The Dragoners and their dragons all reside in a Labyrinth carved into the mountainsides. Each Dragoner has his/her own room, a Hollow. The Labyrinth is very maze-like, and very very large. It has giant openings into the sky for dragon comings and goings, and the paths cut through the stone leave enough space for two full grown dragons to pass comfortably.
The eggs are hatched on the Sands, raised in parts of the Labyrinth with exits near the ground, in an area near the clearing, near a pool of clear water for drinking, swimming and bathing. The clearing is used for exercise, and is also where young dragons learn to fly. It is also where Quests are held- where male dragons fly after and attempt to catch and mate with a female, or more than one female during certain group Quests. Quests can be held on the ground, or in the air, and sometimes even through the Labyrinth itself.
Hatchings are pretty 'normal' compared to other worlds. After the Quest, the female will lay her eggs on the Sands, and bury them. Nobody, except for the mother (and sometimes even she is not sure), knows how many eggs there are. After the eggs are lain, Seekers go out and find Contenders. The Seekers and their dragons have a special ability to sense the innermost feelings and workings of a being's soul, and read whether or not they will be suitable for Linking. Keep in mind that Seekers cannot read exactly what colour the contender will Link. The Seekers bring the contenders back to the Labyrinth, where they house up in a special Wing designated for unLinked contenders. There, they get to know each other. They help out the Dragoners, helping with the dragons and getting to know what they will have to do if and when they themselves Link. Some contenders choose to visit the Sands (wearing the special boots, of course- more later) and talk to the eggs. This is not proven to help the chances of Linking.
At the time of the Hatching, it is the mother dragon that sounds the call. The Sire and the Dragoners of the two are the first to the Sands, followed by the Waeswen (highest ranked female Dragoner- runs the Labyrinth) and the Berraswen (highest ranked male Dragoner- helps run the Labyrinth) and their dragons. Next are the rest of the audience- other Dragoners, relatives of the contenders, anyone who wished to witness the Hatching. Audiences can be anywhere from massive amounts of people with standing room only (as when the Zeri is Questing), or to nonexistant. The last to the Sands are the contenders. They are geared in the special robes- white tunics tied with black belts, and black breeches, and special boots made from the skin of a Cedry. These boots do not conduct the heat from the Sands, therefore keeping the contenders safe during the Hatching.
As the eggs hatch, the baby dragon will form a bond with one of the contenders. (sometimes dragonets choose not to Link, but this is very rare) Hatchlings are birthed knowing their own name.
Names for the breed of dragons here on Keandyn Isle end in either -th, -is, or -wen.
Colours!
Astung began to crave, to lust the taste of raw, flowing, warm blood. He felt stronger, more agile, and his eyesight sharpened. Or was all that just his imagination?
Pean felt the muscles in his back, near his shoulder, become tight, to the point where it hurt to move. His teeth ached, his toes ached, and he was just in a bad mood all the time.
Finally one day, it happened. Astung heard the roar of a Cin outside, and he responded with an identical roar of his own, leaping out of the chair, and was suddenly shifting into the shape of a Cin. His hands and feet turned to gigantic paws. Thick black fur sprouted completely over his body. He was tall, muscular, half-human, half-Cin, like the legendary Earthen Werewolf. But differently, he could change with will- the pull of the moon(s) had no control.
Pean tried to restrain his brother. Astung took a swing at Pean, and then Pean's wings sprouted from his back, where he had been hurting before. They were large, with feathers of metal- the wings of a Dwille. His teeth clanked to the floor as new, metallic fangs pushed them out. His eyes turned black, his skin paled to an almost-white. His hair was a platinum-sliver colour. The two brothers, who just a few days before had been trying to save each others lives, now attacked each other. Astung clawed and rolled from the ground, and Pean shifted completely to the shape of a Dwille. He attacked from the air. The two parted that night to separate sides of the island- Pean to the rocky side, and Astung to the forest.
It was soon after this legendary night that two girls disappeared from the villiage- Asysa and Rydien. Rydiean had been Astng's girlfriend, and Asysa had been Pean's. The men had taken their girls to their own new homes. With just one bite from Pean's poisoness fangs, Asysa became just like him. With a scratch from one of Astung's giant paws, Rydien too became part Cin. And so began to forming of two tribes.
The two species grew apart, and the human villagers soon fled the island. They left behind most of their livestock and the shells of their homes, which were taken over by the Wiccini and the Dwillites. The human-hybrids of the species quickly took over the hunting grounds of the originals, and soon the Cin and Dwilles were extinct from Ibivia.
The two brother-species ran the island, living across from each other, but avoiding each other. But one day, something happened to change everything. Someone stole Pean and Asysa's baby girl.
Yen was Pean's pride and joy. She was their youngest of twelve baby Dwillites at about two years when she was suddenly and mysteriously stolen from her bed in the middle of the night. Pean of course blamed his brother's tribe. He declared war, and for decades after, the two species have been fighting. They still hope for a peaceful resolution someday.
