"Really? A clutch with only male candidates? That sounds very interesting!" Drilum looked up at the large Blue dragon and grinned a sideways grin. His black hair flopped over into his face and he tossed his head, sending it away. His blue flit Aren shrieked for attention in Drilum's ear. Drilum stroked the flit's eye ridge. Two of his sisters, Zhronsha and Zhlae had already gone out for candidacy. He thought that this may be a good time for him to try his luck. He knew what people may think if he Impressed a green, but he didn't care. A dragon was a dragon, all were special. And people didn't care if a girl Impressed a male dragon. He thought that in fact, it may be interesting to Impress a female. Maybe she could give him some tips about how girls felt, and how he could catch that certain one. He grinned, and the Searchrider shifted his weight to his other foot impatiently.
"Alright then. Sounds interesting enough. When do we leave?" The Searchrider made it apparent that they should be leaving now. Drilum agreed. The sooner he got to the Weyr, the closer he was to his Lifemate!
"Drilum. You're leaving? For Ryslen?" Carlen leaned against a wall skeptically.
"Yeah. I'm going to stand for Green Alinth's clutch." One of Carlen's eyebrows arched way up high.
"Oh. Yeah, I've heard of that one. All they're accepting are male candidates, right?" Drilum stiffened a bit. His younger brother (younger by a few minutes) was going to try to convince him not to go. Drilum could feel it in his bones.
"Yeah, so?" Carlen took a step into the room. He was an inch taller that Drilum, and a bit more muscular.
"So, what if you Impress a green?" asked Carlen. Drilum just looked at him, waiting for him to continue. "I mean, what will people think? You know what would happen. She would Rise, and males would Chase. Males ridden by other males. Get my drift?" Still, Drilum said nothing. "Do you know what people will think of you?"
"Why would I care what people thought of me? Why do I care what they think?" Now it was Carlen's turn to be silent. Drilum turned back to his packing. It was stupid that everyone assumed that a male riding a green was gay. And besides, was it 100 per cent positive that Drilum would Impress a female? Maybe he would Impress a Brown or Blue, who knew? Certainly not he. And truth be told, he didn't much care whether it be male or female, brown, blue, green, polka-dotted or pinstriped! Just as long as it loved him for who he was, and as long as they could be together.
