Tauryn stood, leaning against the wall of the Weyr, eyes troubled. Lovanith had been acting different lately. The normally calm and agreeable Light Green had been snappish and moody lately. Tauryn thought that maybe she knew what was going on.
Tauryn, I would like to be oiled please. The dragon flicked her tail irritably and craned her neck to see Tauryn's face.
What are you staring at? Tauryn smiled, now almost positive.
"Okay, Lovanith. By the way. How close are you to Rising? You're sort of Proddy lately." Lovanith stomed a foot onto the floor and snorted.
I am NOT proddy! roared Lovanith, the words echoing through her head. She winced, but smiled.
"Whatever you say, dear." The dragon huffed and then turned her back to be oiled. Tauryn rubbed the oil in, and soon the dragon's hide was shining bright and glowing. The dragon normally would have been ecstatic with joy at her Rider's efforts, but this time she only looked at Tauryn solemnly.
Those males are so obnoxious, don't you think? Tauryn turned to see what males she could be referring to. There were some Browns and Blues standing on the ledges near the Hunting Grounds watching her. They were not just watching, they were staring.
"I think they may like you, Lovanith." The dragon snorted, but Tauryn knew that she was flattered.
I'm hungry, said the dragon shortly. She lept from the ledge and soared gracefully over the herd. Tauryn saw the male dragons watching. Lovanith chose a beast, a large one, and felled it quickly. She ate greedily. Some of the males fluttered closer to her. She stopped eating long enough to let out an angry bark, which sent them stepping away. They continued watching her, though from a distance. Tauryn knew, for sure then, that she needed to sign Lovanith up for a Flight. And what better a place than Ryslen, Lovanith's birthplace? The people were nice, the dragons too. The water was clear, the food wonderful. Yes, Ryslen would be perfect indeed. All they needed was a male dragon good for Lovanith, and a male human who wouldn't mind a girl with a gimp leg and bad limp. The latter would be hard to come by. Tauryn was convinced that all men were shallow, and the fact that she was beutiful in face and hair, and was skinny-ish with a wonderful personality, in her mind, did not matter to the men she knew. All they wanted was perfectness. And she was less than perfect. But Lovanith would need to be Chased. She couldn't just up and Chase herself now could she?
Get away from me, you annoying little creature! shouted Lovanith, snapping at Hart. Tauryn had Impressed Hart recently, needing help with Lovanith. And the dragon was threatening every day to eat the little flitter.
Stupid little bugger. Flitting around here and there, thinking he's so special. It's a male thing, I swear, Taur. Rruff. Tauryn smiled. Lovanith had picked up Tauryn's habit of saying Rruff under her breath when something angered her. How...cute. Hart came flitting over to tauryn, landing on her shoulder for protection from the proddy Light Green. He was chattering angrily at her, and she snorted right back. tauryn leaned back on her heels, rubbing her temples. It was going to be a very long time until the Flight, that was for sure.
