My First Love: Teaching |
Ever since I was in 1st grade, I have wanted to be a teacher. At first I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher, but shadowing one when I was in 7th grade made me change my mind. Then I wanted to be a music teacher, but I didn't think I had the talent. Then I wanted to be a French teacher, but I didn't think I spoke French well enough to do that. Then my junior year of high school, I decided I wanted to be a chemistry teacher. I went to Ohio University, entering as a chemistry education major through arts and sciences. I began to do poorly my first quarter in math and chemistry, and then my second quarter did even worse. I quickly switched to a French major, thinking that maybe I could teach French after all, but then I took my first linguistics course, learned about ESL and the rest is history. |

This is a picture of some of my students from my second ESL class. This picture was taken in June of 2000. They were great and full of surprises. |

These are some of my students in Taiwan. I teach at one of the best preschools in Taipei. These are amazing and wonderful children who have taught me as much as I have taught them. And my two amazing teaching assistants Joanne and Melody...I don't know what I would have done without them! |
