Local Myths of Springfield
Myths, Legends, Ghost Stories, what ever you like to call them, every town has their own unique,
and sometimes not so unique tales to tell.  I grew up in a small town in Iowa, with a population of
about twenty-five hundred people.  There was one story that was told to sixth graders about a girl
who was murdered in the junior high building when it was a college dormitory.  It scared us half to
death.  But that story will not be told on this page (unless it is demanded by popular demand)
because this page is a page of Ozarks Myths, of SPRINGFIELD MYTHS.  I dedicate this page to
my husband Ryan and my friend Misty from work, for with out them I never would have begun my
investigations of the local paranormal (or in some cases paranoia).

I ask but one thing of my viewers, if you know of a local myth, a myth of Springfield Missouri or
the surrounding area, please submit it to me via my guestbook. Also, if you know the directions to
the phenomenon please give them as well. The stories that I am currently aware of and am
investigating are as follows:

The Albino Farm
Location:  Head North on National Ave until you reach Greenlawn Cemetary then follow the street as it curves to the right. Then as soon as you pass the cemetary take the turn to the Left.  It is just past the houses (on the right) and the farm is on the left.  There is am old beaten up gate.  This farm was owned by nuns and the groundskeeper was a mentally retarded Albino man.
The Ghost of Springfield--A woman walking through a park in her wedding gown to her outdoor
wedding was frightened by robbers and fell of a bridge to her death.  She comes out at night.  I have
video of her and will post still shots here shortly.

The Heartbeat of Springfield--When you walk into this tunnel you can hear an eerie heart beating, I
will post the sound.

The Woman Upstairs--Above the Landers Theater a ghost woman peers out the window.

The Sphere of Death--This mystical orb has also been seen at the Landers theater.  It appears as a
green or blue floating sphere, and when it appears it becomes so cold in the theater that you can see
your breath.  I will try to get tangible evidence, but unfortunately the phenomenon

The Wereclyde--A black cat that wears the face of his master, an ugly bloated man with excess gas.

Here are Myths that I need info/locations on:

The Tortured Slaves (a plantation owner tortured his slaves to death, though the buildings are burned
down, you can still hear them screaming)

and

The Hwy Angels (A secret convent in the mountains where large marbel angels are visible from
the road only at night)

Thanks a bunch!  Come back in a week and see how much things have changed.
The Albino Graveyard
The myth:  a bunch of albinos died and were buried in their family cemetery, they haunt
any non albino who trespasses onto the property.

The fact:  This is a normal family graveyard by the name of "McCraw Cemetary".  People have been buried there from at least the 1860s, perhaps earlier.  There are an unfortunate number of stones that are so old and worn that they are unreadable.  The most recent burial in the McCraw Cemetary was in 1999. Many of the people that are buried there are children. Further information will be displayed as they are discovered.
Here is the news: On the top is pictured the Church where the nuns worshiped and on the bottom left is the place where the albino lived.  On the bottom right is the outhouse where the nuns went to... well... you know... go.
On the left is a picture of my sister (wearing a sheet over her head) in the Albino Graveyard. I used some editing equiptment to make her glow.  I wasn't going to use this picture on the web, but I couldn't get the others to load.  On the right is a picture of one of the stones at the graveyard.  It marks the grave of a baby who died at birth.
To the left is a picture of two above ground graves that are located at the McCraw cemetary.  The one closest to the camera has an eleven year old girl in it.  The furher one is not marked, or at least it is so old that you can't locate where the writing was.  The length of the crypt is approximately 5'5" long, so I estimate that the person inside is shorter than 5', which I figure is the length of the space inside.  It is unknown why the families chose to have them buried above ground.  Speculation abounds.
This is an Underground shelter that is on the property.  As you can tell, this is a common hangout for College hulligans from Southwest Missouri State University.  I do not know the meaning of "B-World" or who "Justin '98" is, but anyone who has the infromation is welcome to send it to my guestbook.  Inside the structure we found broken bottles, lots of beer cans and the ashes from a small bondfire.  Whoever Justin is, he's a real party animal...
The photo on the left is my sister standing near the entrance to the Abbey.  Just for your imformation there is no floor to the abbey, it has long since rotted away, leaving a large drop (at least 6 feet) down into the basement of the abbey.  Forgive me for not climbing down there and exploring, but we didn't have a latter and were afraid that we'd get stuck there.
