About Me
Jay
Indianapolis
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 170       Goal Weight:  165
Running Since:  September 2003
I have been running since September 2003 and running seriously since March 2005.

Even though I was running
with a purpose in early 2005, I had not read any books to truly understand how to run.  I just ran as fast as I could everytime.  Thus I was working only my anaerobic system and was running at a high heart rate ( > 165).

In October 2005 I began base training to develop my aerobic system.  I primarily followed the method described by Philip Maffetone.  There is a good discussion on this method on the Cool Running message boards.  I continue to follow the low HR training method but am now mixing in some speed workouts.  I am now able to run over 16 miles without much problem at a low HR pace (~9:00/mile @ 145 heart rate).  My paces have continued to improve over the last 6 months (average pace for 6 miles at low heart started at ~10:30/mile).
