Direct Consular Filing
of the I-130 Visa

If you are filing the I-130 petition for your spouse, and you currently live temporarily abroad in another country, you may be able to file your I-130 petition directly with the consulate abroad. lot of people strongly recommend the direct consular filing, as in some cases, it can be much quicker than returning to the US to file with a service center. Please keep in mind that not all consulates allow this. You should check with the consulate abroad to see if a direct consular filing can be done, and what the procedures are for filing your I-130 petition.
