Our Baby Jesse

By Lana

My husband and I had been married almost two years when we started trying to conceive. I came off the pill but didn't have a period. I waited several months before really trying to get to the root of my problem. I had went to my nurse practitioner once and she told me it was normal not to have a period, that was September of 1999.

In March of 2000 I started working about a hour form my home in a bigger city. I went to a new doctor and he asked me if I felt when I ovulated, I answered no. He said that was because I didn't, therefore I wasn't having a period. Anyway, he gave me something to start my period and then prescribed Clomid to make my ovulate. I found out I was pregnant the second week of April and I was thrilled. My doctor even laughed my first visit back, he said it was unusual for this to happen on the first round. Everything was perfect.

We had an ultrasound at twelve weeks, and our baby smiled at us. I have full (big) lips and we could see that our baby had them also. I went back to the doctor on June 20th. Things were still fine. Two days later, I had severe cramping. I debated all day to go to the hospital, that night I did. They performed a series of tests to conclude that it was just my stomach stretching.

I did not have anymore pain until the morning of July 4th. I woke up at around 6 a.m. with that same cramping. I took some tylenol and tried going to the bathroom. I felt that something was really wrong. It just so happened that I had spent the night at my parents home with the girls I worked with from the group home. I tried to stand several times when at last I felt something-my baby. I delivered him in my sister's bathroom. I screamed for my sister and then she went running to my mother. They asked if I was sure and I said yes. My placenta never dropped so the rescue had to be called. I finally make it to the hospital. They decided to do a D&C to remove my bag. It is then they found that I had an incompetent cervix. My baby was delivered at sixteen weeks, weighing 4oz and 7inches long. He was our miracle baby, but God needed Jesse more than we Now are trying again. Please pray that God sends us another miracle. By the way, we were right about Jesse's lips, they were every bit as big as mine. He also had my nose and my husband's toes. I will never get over losing Jesse, but God has helped us through.
