RESIDENT EVIL CODE VERONICA X |
Capcom's mistake... |
I have been a big fan of Resident Evil games for quite some time. I was in awe at the marvelous masterpiece that was Resident Evil, the twice-as-good Resident Evil 2, blown away by the addictiveness of Resident Evil 3, I ignored the extremely stupid Resident Evil Survivor, pretending it never was made. So then I tried Resident Evil Code Veronica X. I knew that Code Veronica was a Sega Dreamcast game, and being a PS2 owner and supporting Sony I can’t say I had played it before. I was waiting quite a long time for Resident Evil Code Veronica X, and it finally arrived. The first thing I noticed was that the controls were slightly different and harder to use. Instead of running with Square, you are forced to run with Circle. This was odd, and affected my ability to be successful in combat. Luckily you can change it. But that wasn’t the only thing plaguing the controls: The combat was clunkier than hell as well. There’s one point early on in the game when you have to fight a dozen zombies with nothing but a fricking small knife. That made me lose more lives by the minute. Another problem adding on to the combat problems was the fact that weapon ammunition is *extremely* limited, and there’s only a few herbs to heal you. It got worse. As I continued playing further, I got less and less interested. This game was boring. Pure bordom. I predicted every single scare and every single shock that they planned to give me, so it never worked. It’s like Capcom’s used their “scare” formulas so much now, they’re predictable, not scary at all, and just plain stupid. It’s not because I am a die-hard RE fan either, because Curtis predicted a “scare” too, and he’s no RE fan. We walked up next to a glass window to pick up an item, and suddenly a zombie broke through the glass, trying to scare us. It was hilarious because we knew exactly what was going to happen. As for the voice acting, it’s still cheesy as hell. It’s getting downright pathetic now, and I am looking for more variety in this series. How many times can people “accidentally” mess with the T-virus and wreak havoc on Racoon City? It’s happened four times now. I have many complaints for this game, and they are all fairly important. Especially the story and plot, which is unbelievable now and extremely uncool. Don’t think that this game is all bad, because it’s not. It has a cool opening CG and a free Devil May Cry demo!! Maybe those are two reasons to play this game. Plus, if you are a fan of RE and you want to finish your collection, this is a great oppurtunity. This is a special edition fifth-anniversary game, part of a terrific franchise. But, something disappointing is the fact that there is no Wesker’s Report DVD :( , something I have been waiting for a long time now. Don’t buy this game if you have seen too much Resident Evil, because you will be disappointed. I only hope that the Dreamcast version wasn’t this bad. |
