(NEWS-JANUARY 7, 1927) JULY 8- Mrs Elizabeth Painter, 80, died at the home of Mr and Mrs David Strough west Locust St. Mrs Painter was born in Germany. Resume of 1926.

(ANDERSON HERALD Saturday APRIL 22, 1922) Mrs Eva Condo Painter, age 79, died at her home on Columbia Avenue early Friday morning. She was the widow of Sanford Painter, who died 9 years ago. Mr and Mrs Painter lost their only child in infantcy but were foster parents to L.L. Leavell and Mrs Sam Good and Roy Myers. Also survive her, a niece, Mrs Eva Tollefsen, who lived with her the last 10 years, a half brother, J.E. White and half sister, Mrs ROsa Tollefesen of Kearney Nebraska adn step borthers, David White of Coroan. Funeral will held Sunday at 2:00pm, at First MEthodist Episcopal Church, Rev. J.S. Newcombe the pastor in charge and interment at Miller.

JOSEPH P PAINTER- 70, a well known resident of Bellfontaine Ohio, died after illness of 1 year. Married Venona Dykes, daughter of William & Malissa Dykes; 2 childern, William S of Fort Worth Texas and Miss Vivian Painter at home. He was born near Muncoe Indiana on May 27, 1867, the son of William S and Hannah Painter. He learned photographic art in Muncie and was a photographer in Middletown for 12 years beofre going to Oihio where he had a studio, retiring 10 years ago. He was one of 8 children, all except one sister, Mrs Catherine Rawlings of Mucnie preceeded him in death-his brother Luther S Painter died last February. He was a member of Lutheran Church, burial at Cemetery in Middletown.

(ANDERSON HERALD-November 16, 1922)
Word has been recieved here announcing the death of Joe Painter of Hartford City. Mr Painter was sick only a short time and his death unexpected. Mr Painter with his family were former residents of this place. Beside the 2 daughters, Mrs Jon Jones, Markerlville and Mrs Lee Pendelton of near Mechanicsburg, he is survived by 1 brother; Dr B.H. Painter of Muncie, formerly physican of this place.

(NEWS-AUGUST 8,1902)
Mrs D.T. Painter died at her home in New Castle, Wednesday; cancer of the stomach. With her husband, she resided on the farm a few miles east of Middletown until a year or two ago, then moved to New Castle. Services at residence of W.W. Prigg, followed by burial at Miller.

Mrs Sarah Helen Painter, 49, wife pf Joseph Painter died of suicide by drinking carbolic acid. She was the step-daughter of Mrs Alcina Sharp of Honey Creek and half sister of Mrs F.P. Miller of this place and Mrs Luther Fleming of Honey Creek.

Services were held for Mrs Lula May Painter, Springport, R 1, who died unexpectly last Saturday. Were conducted Moday with burial in Miller. She was a lifelong resident of Henry County. Beside her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs Mary Lois Pierce, a brother Clinton Henshaw of Spiceland, 4 grandchildern.

The death of Abraham Painter, one of the oldest pioneer's of Henry county, occured at his home south of Muncie near Middletown Sunday, a result of a stroke suffered about 10 days ago. The deaceased settled on the farm upon which the family homestead is located and where he died. 72 years ago after cleaning the land. He came to Indiana from Rockingham County Virginia. He was the father of 9 childern and the oldest living member of the Painter Family. The surviving members of the family are; Mrs John W (Sarah Catherine) Taylor, Muncie, Mrs James G Thomas of Mantorville, Minnesota; Mrs J.(Jonds)F.(Lovincy Ellen) Shoemaker of Muncie; Miss Martha Painter, Mr John J(ames), Mr William F(rancias), A(bsalom) D(avid) Painter and George E(lsworth) Painter of Henry County. Services were held Tuesday afternoon, burial at Miller. He was alomost 86 years of age.

(NEW CASTLE COURIER- July 16, 1876)
Samuel D Painter, born October 26, 1816 in Rockingham County Virginia, departed his life July 12, 1876, age 59 yrs, 8mo, 17 days. He emigrated to Henry County with his parents November 6, 1832 and settled on a farm on Honey Creek in Fall Creek Township.He married Anna Rader in Henry County May 17, 1838. 7 childern, 2 brothers, 3 sisters survive. His lifeless remains accompanied by a large concourse of friends were taken to Dunker Church on Firday July 14, prepared to interment in cemetery in vincinity of same.

James Ora Painter, oldest son of William A and Naomi J Painter, born 9 January 1866 died January 14, 1936, age 70 yr and 4 days, married Florence Franklin, October 24, 1889,eldest daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Frankilin. 2 sons Carl Franklin and William Laurel who resided on the fathers farm surivive. 4 grandchildern, 2 brothers, Charles C and Joseph V.

Mrs Christian Painter, living in the neighborhood of Springport died at her home last Sunday evening. Funeral services will be held today. She was quite aged and one of the pioneer's of Henry County. She was the mother of Jos. Fry. (Rebecca Rinker-- See Painter Genealogy)

David Monroe Painter, one of the best known and most highly respected citizen of this community died Thursday night October 22,at his home just east of Middletown. "Monroe Painter" as he was known to many of his friends, was a son of Samuel and Anna(Rader) Painter, pioneer residents of this community and was born on the farm known as the David T Painter farm,now owned by f.A. Wisehart, Mr Painter was born November 20, 1844 and spent practically all of his life in this community. He was one a family of 8 childern, 5 of whom, 4 sisters and 1 sister surivive. Mrs James Groendyker, Mrs Julia Critenbarger and Mrs W.C.Hess of Middletown, Mrs Perry Frazier, New casltle adn Horace G Painter who lives on the old home place. Of his immediate family, he is usrvived by his widow, Mrs Rosaan Johnson Painter and 4 childern, 2 daughters and 2 sons; Mrs CP Hull, near Markelville,; John H Painter of Middletown and ALbert J Painter at home.

(AUGUST 6, 1915)
Dr. Lester Howard Painter, died Saturday, at the home of his sister, Mrs H.H. Rayle at Muncie. Services were held at the Muncie residence, burial at the Painter Cemetery, northeast of Middletown. Dr. Painter was the 2nd child and older son of the late Flemmon W Painter and wife. He was born April 18, 1871, northeast of Middletown within a short distance of where his body now rests. After completing his education in the district school near his home adn later in Middletown, he took up the study of medicine the late Dr. Leavens, Later he went to College in Chicago. He practiced his profession in this community until about 10 or 12 years ago when he went to Dallas Texas. He is survived by his widow, Miss Mary Stobaugh, a teacher in Middletown achools for several years ago, and 3 sons; Howard F, Maxwell M, and Robert W Painter. He is also survived by his mother; Elizabeth Mowls Painter, one sister; Mrs H.E. Rayle and one brother; Micheal M Painter.

PAINTER, David Waldo, prominent farmer residind near Cowan was buried Sunday in Tomlinson Cememtery, near Muncie. He died Friday at his home from heart trouble. He was the son of William Francis and Elizabeth Shoemaker Painter, the latter whom survives. She resides on N 5th ST. Beside his mother,he leaves his widow, Miss Adda Marsh Painter, 3 daughters; Mrs Pauline King, Marion; Miss Katheleen and Isabel Painter at home. 3 sisters; Mrs Frank Mooreland, Daleville; Mrs Dorothy Green and Miss Mattie Painter, Middletown.

Jack W Painter, 48, 3216 Loral Drive, died Tuesday afternoon at home following an extended illness. He was a native of Frankton and had resided in Anderson area all his life. He was employed at Delco Remy Division for 21 yrs. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the First Penecostal Church of Anderson and UAW Local 662.
Surviving are his wife, Janice (Cox) Painter, one son, Richard Brett Painter, Anderson, one stepson Joe Adams of Anderson; 4 step-daughters; Mrs Chuck (Laverna) Plouge of Elwood, Mrs Daniel (Katherine) Colton of Germany. Penny Hobbs of Chesterfield and Mrs Christopher (Annie) Weir of Anderson. One brother; Milton M Painter of Markelville, 5 sisters; Mrs Sam (Beverly) Hood of Elwood, Betty L Painter of Anderson, Mrs Meridith (Carolyn) Warner of Mechanicsburg, Jayne McFadden of Markelville, Mrs Raymond (Susan) Sklebek of Anderson, 2 half sisters; Helen Seal of Anderson, and Mrs Wilbur (Rachel) Warriner of Frankton and 9 grandchildern. Services will be at 11:00 am Friday in the Brown and Butz Funeral Home with the Rev R.B. Bingham of the first Pentecostal Church officating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery- Anderson, Friends may call from 3-9 pm today at the funeral home.

MIDDLETOWN- Ruth May (Harvey) Painter, 82 RR 2 Middletown, died Monday morning at Yorktown Healthcare Center after an extended illness. She graduated from Indiana University in 1924 and taught school for 3 years in the Dugger School System. She was the 5th grade teacher in Middletown for 15 years,before retiring in 1968. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Middletown. She was born in Indianapolis on May 31, 1908 and was the great granddaughter of Benjermin Franklin of Henry County, a well preacher in the Civil War Era. She was preceeded in death by her husband Carl, one sister, Alberta and 2 brothers, Thaddus and Homer. She is survived by a daughter Eloise Ball of Middletown, 2 sons Carl F Painter Jr of GRayslake, Illinois and Wilton Painter of Rolla, MO, 10 grandchildern and 3 great-grandchildern. Services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown with Mike Scott and Carl adn Wilton Painter officating. Burial will be in Painter Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4pm and 7-9pm today at the funeral home.

EAGELTOWN, OKLA- Paul Webster Painter JR, 61, died Monday. He was a former Anderson resident and was retired from Nicholson File. He was a member of Eagletown Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife- Dovie (Dickinson) Painter,3 sons, Larry Painter, Ft Wayne and Keith Painter, Eagletown, 2 daughters, Paula Schoettmer adn Rhonda Menchew, both of Eagletown, his father; Paul Painter Sr ,Anderson, a sister; Ruth Joan King, Indianapolis and 11 grandchildern. Services are pending at National Funeral Home , Broken Bow Oklahoma. Burial will be at Eagletown Cemetery.

FRANKTON- Earl E Painter, 81, 801 Clyde St, Frankton died Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital in Elwood after an extended illness. He was born in Alexandria and retired from Delco Remy Division in 1966. He was a 32nd degree Mason and had recieved his 50 year pin. He was also a member of the Midwest Tool Collection Association, UAW Local 662 and the Frankton Christian Church. He is surivived by his wife Georgia (Trissel) Painter, a son; Bill Painter of Frankton, 2 sisters, Helen Seal of Anderson, and Rachel Warriner of Frankton, 2 half brothers, Milton M Painter and Jack Painter, both of Anderson and 5 half sisters. Services will be 11:00am Wednesday at the Harper and Dunnichay Funeral Home, Frankton, with Rev Al Covell Officiating. Burial will be at K of P-IOOF Cemetery, Frankton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00-9:00pm today.

Sanford Marion Painter born near Middletown February 28, 1847, died February 14, 1913 age 65yrs,11mo,16days, son of Samuel D Painter in a family of 8, 4 boys and 4 girls, D.M. Painter, Horace G;Mary Jane Groendyke, Mrs Julia Crittenbarger and Mrs W.C. Hess, all of Middletown, Mrs Perry Frazier, New Castle survive. HE married Eva Condover August 14, 1869, 1 son died in infantcy. In the home established by Mr and Mrs Painter, 3 childern were given the affection and care of a father and mother; L.L Leavell, Mrs Sam Good nee Alice Myers and Roy Myers.

Dr B.H Painter, Joe V Painter, Mike Painter and George G Painter attended the funeral of Silas Painter, 80 years old at Summittville yesterday. He was a first cousin of William H Painter and Dr B.H Painter of Middletown and Joe A Painter of Hartford City.

He leaves a wife, child,father and mother, one brother, a sister and a host of friends and relatives to mourn their loss.

John Alexander Painter, living south of town died at his home Saturday. Services were held on Monday, burial to the neighborhood of Reed's Station,Delaware County.

(FEBRUARY 26, 1932)
Funeral Services for John H Painter were held Sunday at First Methodist Church, burial at Miller. The Painter Family is one of the oldest in Eastern Indiana and the family connection is one of the largest. For several years Mr Painter was an officee of the Painter Family Reunion Association and enjoyed a wide acquaintanceship among the various branches of family. Painter's death occurred at Ball Memorial Hospital at Muncie, following an operation he went the previous day. Services held Sunday at the M.E. Church, John H Painter was born November 11, 1867 and the eldest of 4 childern born to Mrs Rosanna Johnson Painter and the late David Monroe Painter. He married Miss Lovica Sanders 39 years ago last December and went into housekeeping in the residence on 5th at where they have long since resided. Surviving our his mother, Mrs Rosanna Painter, the widow, Mrs Lovincy Painter, 1 sister and brother, Mrs Will Conn living in Bell Creek neighborhood and Albert J Painter living on the old home farm east of town.

(NEWS-March 24, 1893)
DAVID PAINTER-born in Timberville, Rockingham County Virginia, November 9, 1807. He was baptized in infancy and converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at age 7. He married Jane Hatton, April 26,1838. Jane died July 18, 1880. 6 childern, 4 sons and 2 daughters survive, William A , Flemming W, Berryman H and Joseph H, the daughters; Mary Matilda Mingle and Elizabeth Bartaro, all the childern living except Mrs Mingle who died April 13, 1885. There are 14 living grandchildern, 2 dead, 6 great-grandchildern, one dead. Of Mr Painter's immediate family, there were 4 brothers and 5 sisters, he was the last to die. His father Alexander and mother Mary came here in 1830. He died at 9:30 pm Monday March 24, 1983, at age 65, 4mo, 11 days. Services were held from St John Church conducted by Rev, MA Harlan, burial at Painter Cemetery

Carl F Painter, 65, was fatally injured as the result of a 2 car crash at the intersection just north and west of Springport Monday. He is survived by his wife Ruth, 2 sons, Wilton at home and Carl Jr of Flat River MO, a daughter, Mrs Donald Ball, Middletown and a brother William R2 Middletown, Services were held Wednesday with burial in Painter Cemetery.

Mrs Roseanna Painter, Mr and Mrs A.J Painter of Middletown were at attending the funeral of Mrs Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 72, burial in Maplewood. The deceased was a sister-in-law of Mrs Roseanna Painter and was the wife of John A Johnson who with 2 sons; William and Charles of Anderson and a daughter Mrs Olive Huffman of Richmond survive. Mrs Johnson was born in Chesterfield.

David T Painter was born in Rockingham County Virginia, 15 April 1833 and is the 3rd son of Absalom and Sarah (Thompson) Painter. He came to Henry County Indiana with his parents in the fall of 1832 and expierenced the hardships of Pioneer Life. He has followed agricultrual pursuits during his life, and at present owns a good farm of 213 acres in Fall Creek Township. He was married to Miss Gilla Ann, daughter of Jacob and Amanda Shoemaker, of Delaware County Indiana. They have 3 childern, John Perry Morton, Otto Warden and Elanora, married to William Prigg a farmer near Mechanicsburg, and has 2 childern; Lowell and Grace. In politics, Mr Painter has always voted the Republician Ticker.

Mrs Amanda Painter, born January 24, 1862 east of town, the daughter of Enos and Lizabeth Lindamood. She married October 19, 1886 Horace G Painter, going to housekeeping on the Samuel D Painter farm east of town where they lived until about 18 years ago, when they moved to Middletown. He was a prominent Henry County farmer and a 50 year member of Springport Christian Church. (NEWS-February 17,1893) Mrs Francis Painter, nee Thompson, nee Rife, was brought here from Rochester to be buried beside her people in Bethel Cemetery. She was a sister to Mrs George Hoover and Mrs Jake Good here. She was one of the pioneer women of Henry County. She was the mother of a large family by her first husband. Mrs Joe Thompson of Sulfur Springs is the only fruit of the first marriage. The body was laid to rest by her mother and sister

ALEXANDRIA- Lewis M Painter, 81, of Alexandria, died Tuesday in Anderson Community Hospital. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and the Delaware County Farm Bureau. Surviving are 2 sons, Wilbur of Ft Wayne, Robert of Alexandria, 8 grandchildern adn one great grandchild. Friends may call at the Davis Strickler-Noffze Funeral Home after noon. Wednesday. Mrs Elizabeth Painter, widow of Flemmon Painter died Tuesday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs Harmon E Rayle at Spiceland. She was about 78 years old and had spent all her life in the vicinity of Middletown. The family home until a few years ago being on the farm northeast of town where the son M.M Painter lives. Surviving are the daughter Mrs Rayle, the son, M.M. Painter and another son Dr L.H Painter died a few years ago and the father Flemmmon died about 7 years ago. Burial at Painter

Naomi VanMatre Painter,wife of W. A Painter died at the Family residence northeast of town Tuesday night age 64. She was the daughter of David VanMatre who was one of the pioneer settlers of this community. She was one of the charter members of the Local Daughters of Rebbecca (Rebekah). Services held from St John's Lutheran Church, east of town on Friday by Rev, N.P France, pastor of the U.B Church at Honey Creek, burial at Painter. (Middletown News- July 18, 1963)
George Elsworth Painter,life onlg resident who marked his 100 the birthday last June 27, died at Whicker Nursing Home last Thursday Morning. He had made his home with daughter and son-in-law Mr and Mrs Rosa Bradford until he entered the nursing home about a month ago. He was the son of Abraham and Rhoda (Sanders) Painter. He had been a farmer all life having acquired the home place from his father in 1901. In 1889 he married Dora Bowers and at the time of her death in 1952 he had been married 63 years. Mr Painter cast his first vote in 1884 and never missed voting and never outside Fall Creek Township. He was a lifeling member of 6th Street Christian Church and a 56 year member of of Masonic Lodge. Surviving beside the daughter are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Ballard & Shirey Funeral Home at 1:30pm Saturday with Rev J Hubert Smith of 6th Street Christian Church Officiating. Burial in Miller Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Mr Painter's death occured at Ball Memorial Hospital at Muncie following an operation he underwent the previous day. Services were held Sunday at M.E. Church. John H Painter was born Novemner 11, 1867, and the eldest of 4 childern born to Mrs Roseanna Johnson Painter and the late David Monroe Painter, He married Miss Lovica Sanders 39 years ago last December and went into housekeeping in the residence on 5th where they have since resided. Surviving are the mother, Mrs Roseanna Johnson Painter, the widow Miss Lovicy Painter, 1 sister and 1 brother, Mrs Will Conn living in Bell Creek neighborhood and Albert J Painter living on the old home farm east of town

Horace G Painter, 90, well known retired farmer, died at the Henry County Hospital New Castle 9:40 Monday. Funeral Services were held at St John Fisher Funeral Home today (Thurs) with Rev Roy A Gray of Indianapolis and Rev William L Richmond, the pastor of 6th Street Christian Church conducting the services.Burial was in Miller Cemetery. Mr Painter was born to Samuel and Anna Pader Painter August 29, 1859 on a farm eat of town. He was the last surviving member of the family of 8 childern. He married Amanda F Lindamood October 18, 1886. One son born to the union died in infancy and Mrs Painter's death occured in 1937. He retired from farming and moved to Middletown in 1919 where he lived until February 1948 when he went into the Henry County Hospital. Mr Painter was a donor to the Henry County Hospital in 1942, following a gift to the hospital a palgue was placed at the entrance of the obstrectical wrd with an inscription "Yhis department was furnished by Horace G Painter in memory of his wife, Amanda Lindamood Painter. He attended the annual family reunions ( the rest may be missing??)

Painter, James Ora-prominent farmer living east of town died at his home of heart trouble and dropsy. Services were held yesterday with burial in Miller. He was character member of the I.O.R.M and had an almost unblemished record of attendance over an 44 year, attendint meeting of local lodge Sat night. He was also a member of the Haymakers an Pocohantas of which latter he was a character member. He seldom was active in public life, prefering private life but serving 1 term as road supervisor. He and his brother, Joe V Painter were about 24 years engaged in breeding pure-bred Clydesdale Belgian and Morgan Horses. Since 1927 he an his son William L Painter have operated the family farm. Beside the brother who resided at the Painter home, he is survived by his wife Mrs Florence Painter, 2 sons, Carl F of Columbus, W.L Painter, east of town, 1 borther Charles C Painter Dalevile 4 grandchildern Lois Boneta and Carl F Painter Jr, Columbus, Thomas A and Phyllis Ann east of twon, He was born in Salem Township in Delaware County Janaury 9, 1866 the eldest son of William Armstrong and Naomi Jolly VanMatre Painter. As a young man he and his brother Joe attained more than local fame in football, a sport and just becoming popular and continued the game as late as 1902

AGNES M PAINTER, 77, 5117 Jaysue St, died Sunday Morning in a Middletown Nursing Home. She was a native of Henry County but lived most of her life in this area. She worked at Delco Remy in the late 1920's and early 1930's and at J.C Penny from 1847-1955. She attended Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church at one time, and was a 42 year member of Middletown Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband
