What makes Jeeva Nagar, Chennai special?

Located at the 13th km on a four lane road from the famous St.Thomas Mount, Jeeva Nagar has several features that attract those who look for a calm residential locality.

Ideal for doctors, paramedics of Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Instt (Deemed University) and even to construct facilities for patients, their guests or relatives.

Jeeva Nagar is a secular enclave that is poised to become a sylvan abode for those who wish to spend quiet evenings. Trees were planted a month ago along the avenues in the layout and these have started growing well except in a few cases. On its boundary is AUDCO Nagar, a fully functioning residential neighbourhood. The vast expanse of Jeeva Nagar is today dotted with tall saplings of avenue trees planted recently. With care, they would grow into tall trees similar to the ones found in the neighbourhood.

There are churches and Christian religious congregations in the vicinity of the Nagar, strengthening its secular character.

For nature lovers:

Nature lovers would love the variety of birdlife that Jeeva Nagar attracts even now, without grown trees. The species recorded here are black drongos, hoopoe, white throated kingfisher, swallows, common babbler, rose ringed parakeet, wagtails, tailorbirds and magpie robin. In coming years, the growing trees would attract many more bird species.

The neighbourhood of Jeeva Nagar is close to the highway that connects Bangalore to Chennai.

Jeeva Nagar has fertile soil.It was used for agriculture till recently. It is also close to the town of Poonamalee where temples of antiquity are found. One of the most famous is the Vaidyanathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Siva in the form of the health-giver, Vaitheeswaran. Even for those who are not very religious, the temple holds great interest, as it is at least 1,200 years old and its stone carvings speak of the Chola era when this great dynasty made forays to the Northern part of what is today the state of Tamil Nadu.

An article in The Hindu newspaper gives its antiquity as 1,500 years. Read the article on the temple "Healing and harmony."

Jeeva Nagar is also the gateway to other famous temples at Thirumazhisai, about 6 km away. These temples are those dedicated to Anjaneya and Siva. Hanuman, revered in this shrine as the "Vinaya Anjayenar" for his healing touch, is worshipped at the Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple. The Sivan temple nearby is the "Udhandeeswarar."
