MASTER TINNER

Shortly after I met Patrick, the master tinner, or tinsmith as some may call him, I observed him at work in his shop.  It took about three minutes for me to realize that what I was watching was like a dream, deja vu almost, I knew then that this was the only work he should be doing. I watched his fluid hand movements manipulate the tin with original tinner's tools, most would be considered antique, well over a hundred years old.  Without a doubt, it was a marvel to watch... his actions poetry in motion. He showed me how to make copper cleats, so that I may assist him that day in preparation for a roofing job he was completing. All the while I made those cleats, I was alone in his shop. I reflected on the magnificence of the moment in which I was able to work quietly looking out a sunny open window in early winter to gaze at the river, a huge smile upon my face... working in the  place where I first began to know I  belong forever by his side.
