One day very soon I will be a high school Spanish teacher. Right now I am preparing to graduate on December 17th, 2005. I began my adult years as a beautician, and am currently still practicing, and do not intend to ever truly quit. But I've known since I was a senior in high school, to be honest a kindergartener, I was meant to be a teacher. After a trip to Cancun with Mom, she suggested a Spanish teacher. I've enjoyed speaking Spanish since I was watching Sesame Street, so she was right I should pursue both ideas.
My life became complete when my son, Dayton, was born. Everyday he shows me something new. It is amazing how much of an individual he is all on his own. I can't say enough about how wonderful it is to be his mom. We learn together (sign language right now), read together, play, sing, dance, shop, nap, and so much more together. I wouldn't trade one single moment I've had and will have with him.
Designing, Spanish, and teaching have combined into a multitude of PowerPoint presentations I have created. Most of them are culturally and gramatically based in Spanish, Central and Latin America. But I have done others that I would consider general. I have found that teaching goes a lot smoother with a clever PowerPoint for today's students and teachers.

One of my biggestt hobbies is Web Designing. I do it for large and small companies as well as universites and individuals. I began about 12 years ago when an individual told me it was too difficult to attempt. I think back to my first pages, and laugh. Now I stick to the principle that takes me through most of my life "Keep it simple, stupid." And that's what my designing is - simple but irrestible.
Another part of my life that came later in adulthood was Type I diabetes. The diagnosis came in the middle of my pregnancy. After I learned of the multitude of symptoms, I figure I had it at least 3-4 years prior to that. It was a life changing moment the day the doctor's office called. Time ceased to exist. Only recently has it started moving again, but then it took a hospital stay for that to happen.
Inspiration has come to me in a variety of forms. For my websites I often use magazine advertisements. Quilts are inspired by materials and colors. What to learn next for my son and I comes from his interests and mine. Daily life inspiration comes from many sources. I reread the poem, Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, almost daily. I keep inspirational quotes in my daily calendar/organizer. And my mother is always a source of comfort. Most of all the simple way my son views the world inspires my life.
It's a great thing to be able to create a completely handstitched quilt from beginning to end. But the largest challenge I face is the mathematics of it. I am mathematically challenged when it comes to anything above basic algebra. As quilts entered my life when I was 17 years old and seriously when I was 22 years old, I have had to find ways around the geometry portion of it. I guess this is where the handsewing and quilting really come into play and once again the idea of keeping it simple. Lots of quilters love a particular part of quiltmaking. I truly love every step of it. Project size is of no issue to me. I love a challenge, which is why I became much better at applique. In the end I really like a pieced quilt with a bit of applique and a hint of embroidery.
Hobbies are numerous for me. I love to read and write, spend time with my family and friends. Also I can't seem to keep myself from taking photos. About 8 years ago I started reading Kodak's series on photography. I started getting good. Now all the art you see on my walls, are photos I've taken (yes, 90& of them are of my son). I dream of differnet photo shoots. I write down a list of ideas whenever someone asks me to do a sitting for them. Then I spend hours printing them out each month. Digital photography has been a godsend. Organizing has probably become one of my most frustrating past times. I can't seem to let it go. If one of our rooms looks cluttered I go into Queen Orgarinizer mode. I get a kick out of any section in any store dedicated to this. Am I bad enough to have to have my spices alphabetized? No. I organize them by type. My books, cds, and movies are not alphabetized either, instead I go by type. I think this need set in when I was pregnant.
