The God Within.
The main reason for my web site is to offer assistance, supports and to lift your confidence if you are walking away from traditional belief systems.
My web page has covered some groundwork and may save you some time and effort, but dont just take my word for it. I have on my page some excellent links that may assist you through your period of doubt and guilt.
If you feel that there is a need to believe in a spiritual God and an after life then by all means do so, but just remember he, she, or it, is your own personal God and no one elses. You are you, and you have the potential for making your life a happy and an exciting one with or without your own personal God. It comes to a matter of choice, you choose.
There is nothing difficult or complicated in you wanting to talk with your personal God, telling him how much you admire the universe, the creation of all living things and your hope for a life after death. You do not need organised religion to teach you how to do this.
This creator God that you may believe in is a God of natural processes, who doesn't make judgments or dispense advice. (in other words no church dogmas.) There is also no instruction manual. (Holy books)
To believe in this creator God and not organised religion is to revere and respect God as the creator. He is a God of life, consistency and fairness. The broad image of God from a Christian point of view is a God to be feared, He will hold you responsible for the sins of others. Like the original sin of Adam and Eve, and if you don't believe in this demi god Jesus, there are the eternal fires of Hell (mythology) to look forward to. It is this type of belief that holds a Christian in bondage.
Organised religion whether traditional, conservative, fundamentalist, or liberal are all unnecessary complications that you can do without, and it will save you money as well. I must mention here that there are some believers in Christianity who claim that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with Jesus or God. Jesus of course being God, "who became flesh and dwelt among men." There is no scriptural evidence to support this relationship principle. It was introduced by a Lutheran in the 18th century and at the time was considered radical and those who practiced it were considered unholy Babylon. All organised beliefs try to get control over you just like so-called cults do, which organised religions despise. Actually they are all tarred with the same brush.
One thing is absolutely certain in this world in which we live, and that is every living thing is going to die and that includes man. If there is such a place after death as an after life apart from the grave or the ashes from a crematorium, then I cannot give you an answer, but I want to stress this. There is not a man or woman on the face of this planet that knows any more about the after life than you or I do, and thats a fact.
Belief systems want you to follow their creeds and dogmas. They want you to follow a set of rules concerning your behaviour; they want to change the way you think. They want to tell you whom your God is, as if they know. It doesnt matter one iota whether an Evangelist, Minister, Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, Guru, or the Pope himself tries to convince you as to who God is, remember this they know no more about God than you do, no matter what they will try to have you believe.
Many people say that they see good things come from organised religions, but if you have a close look you find that this is not so. When they make blanket statements like this they only show their ignorance. And if you dont question them then you in turn show your ignorance. You will find all of these belief systems fighting for your soul and your money in the spiritual market place of your salvation in the after life, if one exists?
It may surprise you to know that there are good intellectual and ethical reasons for not believing in belief systems and you are not alone in your doubts. Good ethical and moral values are not the product of the church; in fact ethical values are degraded by religious beliefs. In addition reasoning and logic are also not the foundation of religion.
As I mentioned earlier what complicates your belief in your God is organised religious institutions. These institutions try to enforce their system of theology as to who God is, which requires a minister of religion, lets say a clergyman to interpret, to explain, and to ensure that they have "The Truth For Believers." The end result for this of course is it then becomes necessary to have Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, Temples etc. This allows for people to meet and to listen to these so-called "experts," who are there to protect their belief system. All of this requires money, which is a major factor in organised religion. It also means job security for the clergy and the hierarchy etc., pays for real estate, buildings, icons, robes, candles, bells, and smells. Guess who provides the finances for this entire hullabaloo? You the party faithful. It not only cost you money, but also your freedom of individual thought, These belief systems have you depend on others therefore making you vulnerable to others.
Is all of this necessary for you to believe in God? Why not just stick to basics? You do not need organised religion for socialising as there are many venues available today for people to get together and enjoy life. Why contribute time and your money to these institutions that are trying to control your life with their brand of God. If you need to believe in God then that is all you have to do. Thank Him for the world in which you live and get on with your life.
Science
If all men in the past believed in supernatural things such as Gods (past and present) Holy ghosts, Trinities, Angels, Evil spirits, Satan, and Hell and depended on such then we would still be living in the dark ages, and science would never have gotten of the ground. Religion made it extremely difficult for scientists in the past, charging them with heresy. Many faced death and imprisonment. And even today religion still puts down scientific investigation and advancement.
Ask yourself this question. If you are unwell and the doctor discovers that you suffer from Epileptic seizures and he prescribes medication (Science) would you take it? or would you prefer to have the church do an exorcism (Religion) on you to try to expel the evil spirit which they say is causing the seizures? I say. Give thanks to the scientist for medication, and pain killers.
Ethics
It is the behaviour of common decent people whom enhances life; everyday people like you and me. We are the ones to promote goodness, not religions.
What are the principles that enhance life? They are compassion, love, self-giving, respect, honesty, responsibility, kindness, knowledge, and enjoyment of life. These are all good qualities whereas murder, plundering, raping, hurting others are usually evil. When these principles are in conflict then you must make a decision and decide which one takes priority.
You do not need religions to understand these principles. The majority of people in this world are "good" irrespective of their believe or non belief.
If the truth were known it would probably be in the order of 1% of the total population of the world who would consider doing evil to others.
There is no evidence to show that the God of the Old Testament "YHVH" or the God of the New Testament "Jesus" or the God of the Quran "Allah" are the Gods of the universe. Im sure that if the God of the universe existed then he would be far superior than the Gods mentioned in the above books.
