B'Elanna
Torres flopped down on her couch after a long day of work. She was
tired, more than a little grumpy and needed a nice, long shower.
Kicking her shoes off, she lay there, enjoying the peace and quiet of being
alone in her quarters and just when she was settling into a nice and much
needed doze, she was interrupted. "Chakotay to Torres."
Rolling
her eyes, she tapped her badge and said tiredly, "Torres here."
She
could hear him chuckle. "Tired, B'Elanna?"
B'Elanna
moaned softly, buring her head against the back of the couch. "Mmhmm.
I just want to sleep, so please, tell me what you want."
He
laughed. "Well, it was nothing important. I just wanted to
see if you wanted to have a little dinner, but I'll let you sleep."
B'Elanna
rubbed her eyes a little and sat up. "Dinner? No, I'm allright.
I haven't had anything yet, so sure. I'll have dinner with you."
"Are
you sure? I don't want to drag you away from your bed," he said good
naturedly.
Standing
and stretching, B'Elanna nodded, despite the fact he couldn't see and said,
"No, I'll be fine." She pet her stomach. "I'm getting hungry
anyhow. When do you want me to meet you?"
"I
get off in five minutes. Too soon?"
B'Elanna
stumbled to her mirror. "No. No problem. Mess hall?"
"Yeah,"
he answered. "See you there. Chakotay out."
B'Elanna
picked her hairbrush up and ran it through her brown hair, looking at her
reflection in the mirror. She had wanted a shower, a quick dinner
and to sleep, but she didn't get to have dinner with Chakotay very often.
In fact she missed him. She saw him often enough on duty, but it
just wasn't like it used to be. They had been quite close friends
and even more at one time, but now they were lucky to catch up on the week's
events. So, setting her brush down, B'Elanna took one last look at
her reflection and headed to the mess hall.
He
hadn't gotten there by the time she arrived, so she went ahead and took
a tray from Neelix and sat down at a small table. It wasn't long
before he did arrive, and grabbing a tray, he sat down. "I'm glad
you came," he said with his characteristic, dimpled smile. She couldn't
help but grin at his smile. She loved that smile.
"It's
not everyday I get to have dinner with you," she replied, taking a bite.
"What's this about, anyhow?"
He
chuckled and picked up his fork. "Does there have to be something
behind it?"
B'Elanna
smiled. "Well, you usually don't call me over the comm to have dinner,
you just join me if I'm here."
Chakotay
shrugged. "I just miss you sometimes. I miss talking, confiding.
I miss alot of things. I've been thinking alot about you lately."
She
grinned and looked at him for a moment. "You have, huh? Is
this a good thinking of you or an "I'm worried about you" thinking of you?"
He
laughed and held his fork, smiling at her. "It's a good thinking
of you. You're so very beautiful, B'Elanna." He took a bite
and quickly said, "So, what have you been up to this week?"
B'Elanna
stared for a moment, wondering if she'd heard right. "Nothing," she
answered. "Just the usual things. How about you?"
He
shrugged. "The usual too. I guess everyone's up to the usual."
He smiled. "We'll have to arrange something to get everyone out of
routine for a change."
B'Elanna
only nodded, wondering what he was thinking. She could tell he wasn't
really interested in the things he was talking about, but since when did
he have trouble saying what he meant? She sat and listened in silence
as he went on and brought up the old days. He rarely talked about
the old days back when they were still Maquis. She searched through
her mind for any reason he might be acting this way...it wasn't his birthday...there
was nothing special about the day. It was just strange of him.
Not that she minded. She rather enjoyed talked about the great times
they'd had with their friends. Even in the most heated battle with
Starfleet they could find something that had happened that was funny or
good in some way. So, she sat there and remembered with him, laughed
and forgot her previous fatigue.
It
was nearly 0100 before she returned to her quarters. Kicking her
shoes back off, she quickly peeled her uniform off and immediately got
into the sonic shower. As the shower started she leaned against the
wall and closed her eyes. She'd had fun tonight. It brought
back alot of memories. She and Chakotay had been close once, had
even been lovers. She smiled, remembering the time...
...B'Elanna
smiled softly as she lay on her belly with the sheet draped over her behind,
leaving her back bare. Chakotay lay beside her, absently rubbing
her back and touching every curve there. "B'Elanna, do you ever wonder
how things will end up? Where things will go?" He turned to
look into her eyes.
She
stretched a little and nodded. "All the time. Why?"
Chakotay
looked at the ceiling again. "I don't know," he said quietly.
"I guess I'm just tired of fighting and worrying."
B'Elanna
reached over and ran her fingers down his cheek. "I know. We're
all tired of fighting. It'll be allright."
Chakotay
kissed her fingers and said, "I hope so. The crew thinks I'm too
careful."
She
folded her arms under her head and said, "You're a good person, Chakotay,
and a good captain. They trust that. They trust you."
Chakotay
turned and looked into her eyes. "Thank you, B'Elanna. You
make all these days of fighting and fear worth it." Her eyes widened
but before she could say anything, his lips were over hers as he held her
to him again...
B'Elanna
shook her head and finished her shower. It had been a long time since
that night and just what had made her think of it, she wasn't sure.
One thing was for sure, it still made her heart race and her thoughts fuzzy
and warm. She shook her head and wrapped a towel around herself.
"Get a grip, Torres," she said, looking at herself in the mirror.
Sighing and making her way to her bed, she lay down on her stomach.
For some reason she felt sad now. "Those days are over," she reminded
herself. But still, they had been wonderful days. Great,
she thought. Chakotay's nostalgia is rubbing off on me.
She groaned and turned onto her side and before long she found herself
in a dream-filled sleep, filled with images of her and Chakotay.
B'Elanna
stirred and awoke. Why hadn't her alarm sounded to wake her?
Frowning, she sat up. "Now there's a site I haven't seen in a long
time," a voice said, making her jump.
She
whirled around to see who was intruding upon her. "Chakotay?
What are you doing here?" she asked firmly, holding the towel around her.
"How did you get in?"
Chakotay
only laughed and spread his arms. "A commander has his ways.
Relax. I just came to watch you sleep. I had planned to be
gone by the time you woke, but I couldn't help but stay."
B'Elanna
sank back down to her bed, rubbing her forehead absently. "You scared
the hell out of me, Chakotay. What's got into you, anyhow?
First we stay up late talking about the past and now you come to watch
me sleep?"
He
still grinned, but his eyes took on a seriousness she knew too well.
Suddenly her stomach was nervous and her pulse was a little faster.
"Like I told you last night. I've been thinking alot about you."
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I don't know.
I guess I just miss you. I miss the way things used to be.
And it makes me wonder."
She
blinked and asked, "Makes you wonder what, Chakotay?"
He
didn't say at first, simply looked her over. Suddenly, she was acutely
aware that the only thing she had on was the towel. She gripped it
a little firmer. "It makes me wonder what could be," he said quietly,
standing and making his way to her. As he sat down on the bed beside
her she felt herself start to shake. She couldn't even say anything.
B'Elanna,
you're acting like an academy cadet, she thought as she glanced at
her trembling fingers. This made her grip the towel with both hands.
"B'Elanna," he said softly, almost absently tracing his finger over her
bare thigh. He looked into her eyes. "I still love you."
He
didn't add to that. Instead he leaned close to her and kissed her
lips softly. "Chakotay," she said softly, his words still sinking
in. She gazed into his dark brown eyes and without even realising
it, she let go of the towel to touch his arm. It didn't even register
that it had fallen until she saw his eyes wander down her neck and to her
body. But by then she didn't even care. Wrapping her arms around
him, she kissed his lips with a passion she hadn't felt in a long time.
It didn't look like either of them would be on time for their shifts today.
Harry
tapped his fingers against the console in engineering and waited impatiently
for B'Elanna to arrive. "Computer, time," he asked.
"The
time is 09:45 hours," the computer responded in it's annoyingly calm voice.
Harry
exhaled and just as he was about to forget the reports he had brought to
engineering and make his way to the bridge, she was there. "You're
late," he informed her.
B'Elanna
whisked by him and straight to a console. "And you, Harry, are in
the wrong section.. Shouldn't you be on the bridge?" she asked, moving
along with her work.
Harry
shook his head and held out the data padds. "Here are the reports
you wanted and remember, we're supposed to test the new engine upgrades
we've been working on for weeks?"
B'Elanna
stopped and turned to him. "Sorry," she said, smiling. "I forgot."
His
eyes widened a little. "This has been your pet project for the past
month and you forgot? Who is he?"
B'Elanna
widened her eyes. "Who?"
Harry
grinned and pulled up a chair. "Whoever kept you busy this morning."
B'Elanna
blushed. "That's none of your business. Let's get to work."
He
still grinned and watched her. That was until she glared at him,
gripping the data padd she'd been reading. "Ok, ok," he said, smiling.
It had to be a man, Harry decided. But who? Tom? Maybe.
But before the break-up, B'Elanna had firmly proclaimed that she would
not keep either of their hopes for a relationship up. Once it was
over, it was over. She wasn't usually given to going back on her
decisions. And it had already been a few months. Ensign Aaron
Johnson had been hinting, however subtly, that he wanted to ask B'Elanna
for a date, or rather he wanted her to approach him first. He was
a shy young man. Had he finally come out of his shell and asked her?
Harry chuckled at the thought of them together. Somehow he doubted
Aaron was B'Elanna's type. One of the Maquis, perhaps.
Harry
didn't speculate long. Some time later B'Elanna decided to test one
of her theories and just as Harry had been about to join her, he saw it.
He knew he shouldn't look, but curiousity got the better of him and when
the message came through to her terminal, he couldn't help but open it.
What he saw put a big grin on his face.
B'Elanna,
I
can't stop thinking about this morning. I needed it. I needed
you.
Let's have dinner tonight? Something quiet and private. We'll
talk later.
-C
Harry
knit his eyebrows and muttered, "C?"
"You
just had to read it, didn't you?" she said from right behind him,
making him jump.
Harry
turned. "You scared me."
B'Elanna
frowned. "I'm gonna scare you alot more if you ever read another
of my private messages again."
Harry
smiled and spread his arms. "Sorry?" he said innocently.
B'Elanna
smiled. "You're lucky I'm in a good mood." She pushed him from
the terminal and sat down. She shook her head, aware of Harry looking
over her shoulder. "Would you please?" she said.
He
smiled and stepped back. "It was worth a try."
B'Elanna
shook her head and muttered, "It's not that big of a deal," as she answered
Chakotay.
Chakotay-
Sure thing. Dinner sounds wonderful. I'm not so sure about
the quiet part, but definately private. Be ready. (Evil Grin)
-B'Elanna
"Chakotay!?"
Harry exclaimed, standing over her shoulder
B'Elanna
sighed. "Was it really that worth it?"
"Worth
what?" he asked, grinning.
"This,"
she answered simply, punching his arm quite hard.
Harry
grasped his arm in pain and laughing, he said, "Ow. That's gonna
bruise."
B'Elanna
shook her head. "Let's get to work." But the terminal flashed
again. Before she could shut it down, Harry hit the open button and
read:
(Leer)
"That
is too cute," he said as she smacked the already bruising arm, getting
another, more serious, "Ow."
B'Elanna
turned the terminal off. "Can we please get to work?" She shook
her head as he nodded. Glancing back at the terminal as Harry turned,
she felt butterflies as she thought about Chakotay and what had happened,
what would happen now that they together again. She smiled. I've
missed you too.
