TITANIC-WAS SHE CURSED?

WAS HER SINKING FORTOLD?

From the very start it was prophesied that the name Titanic is cursed. A cockerel crowed in the daytime as she set sail which is a very bad omen to sailors. As the Titanic steamed past the Isle of Wight, people living along the coast stood by the shore and cheered. A Mrs Marshall screamed and grabbed her husband Jack's arm. "It's going to sink, that ship is going to sink. Save them! Save them!" But no one listened to the hysterical ravings of a woman who appeared to have gone mad. What Mrs Marshal did not know was that her mother had booked a passage on the Titanic.

This terrible disaster, 700 kilometres south of Newfoundland, was a tragedy foretold. In 1898 author Morgan Robertson published a novel telling the story of the demise of a supposedly unsinkable ocean lines named SS Titan. Incredibly, apart from the coincidence of name, Robertson's story featured a long list of similarities with the real events that coincided with the Titanic's sinking. He described the sailing of a gigantic steamship from Southampton on its inaugural voyage hitting an iceberg and sinking.

The ship in his novel was almost a clone of the White Star Line's Titanic. Robertson's Titan was 70,000 tons (the Titanic displaced 66,000 tons) measured 800 feet (the Titanic was 882.5 feet) transported 3,000 passengers ( the Titanic carried 2,207) and like the Titanic was driven by three propellers.

Morgan Robertson was writing at a time when there was not the technology to build such a ship. It was pure speculation. One of the main themes in the story was that the arrogant owners of the Titan were so convinced of its unsinkability that they provided only 24 lifeboats for the 2,500 passengers. The Titanic sunk with a loss of life of 2,224 passengers. There were only 20 lifeboats- half the number required.

Many of the people who booked a voyage on the Titanic had their lives saved by clairvoyance of the forthcoming disaster. Many had dreams or other inexplicable "signs" that something was going to happen to the Titanic. Some cancelled their journey at the last minute. Psychiatrist and parapsychologist Ian Stevenson of the University of Virginia (USA) researched the cases years later. He discovered about 20 cases of people who had a premonition of the event- many of who's lives were saved as a result. And the Society for Psychical Research still keep the records including an original unused ticket kept by one of those who cancelled.

EGYPTIAN CURSE?

Nobody knows for certain why the Titanic has been dogged by such bad luck. But the answer may finally lay in the records of the British Museum. It is said that the Titanic was carrying cursed Egyptian artifacts and the mummy of a pharaoh on its way to a museum in America. It was already notorious and had been nicknamed 'the accursed mummy' by the press. According to the newspaper reports of the time everyone who had taken photographs of it had mysteriously died. As it was put aboard the Titanic the dock workers dropped it breaking one of their colleges legs. It now lies deep beneath the Atlantic perhaps cursing the name Titanic forever.

Of all tales of the supernatural, this one is perhaps the best documented, the most disturbing and the most difficult to explain....

The Princess of Amen-Ra lived some 1,500 yrs before Christ. When she died, she was laid in an ornate wooden coffin and buried deep in a vault at Luxor, on the banks of the Nile. In the late 1890s, 4 rich young Englishmen visiting the excavations at Luxor were invited to buy an exquisitely fashioned mummy case containing the remains of Princess of Amen-Ra. They drew lots. The man who won paid several thousand pounds and had the coffin taken to his hotel. A few hours later, he was seen walking out towards the desert. He never returned.

The next day, one of the remaining 3 men was shot by an Egyptian servant accidentally. His arm was so severely wounded it had to be amputated. The 3rd man in the foursome found on his return home that the bank holding his entire savings had failed. The 4th guy suffered a severe illness, lost his job and was reduced to selling matches in the street. Nevertheless, the coffin reached England (causing other misfortunes along the way), where it was bought by a London businessman.

After 3 of his family members had been injured in a road accident and his house damaged by fire, the businessman donated it to the British Museum.

As the coffin was being unloaded from a truck in the museum courtyard, the truck suddenly went into reverse and trapped a passer-by. Then as the casket was being lifted up the stairs by 2 workmen, 1 fell and broke his leg. The other, apparently in perfect health, died unaccountably two days later.

Once the Princess was installed in the Egyptian Room, trouble really started. Museum's night watchmen frequently heard frantic hammering and sobbing from the coffin. Other exhibits in the room were also often hurled about at night. One watchman died on duty; causing the other watchmen wanting to quit. Cleaners refused to go near the Princess too. When a visitor derisively flicked a dustcloth at the face painted on the coffin, his child died of measles soon afterwards.

Finally, the authorities had the mummy carried down to the basement. Figuring it could not do any harm down there. Within a week, one of the helpers was seriously ill, and the supervisor of the move was found dead on his desk.

By now, the papers had heard of it. A journalist photographer took a picture of the mummy case and when he developed it, the painting on the coffin was of a horrifying, human face. The photographer was said to have gone home then, locked his bedroom door and shot himself.

Soon afterwards, the museum sold the mummy to a private collector. After continual misfortune (and deaths), the owner banished it to the attic.

A well known authority on the occult, Madame Helena Blavatsky, visited the premises. Upon entry, she was sized with a shivering fit and searched the house for the source of "an evil influence of incredible intensity". She finally came to the attic and found the mummy case. "Can you exorcise this evil spirit ?" asked the owner.

"There is no such thing as exorcism. Evil remains evil forever. Nothing can be done about it. I implore you to get rid of this evil as soon as possible."

But no British museum would take the mummy; the fact that almost 20 people had met with misfortune, disaster or death from handling the casket, in barely 10 yrs, was now well known. Eventually, a hard-headed American archaeologist (who dismissed the happenings as quirks of circumstance), paid a handsome price for the mummy and arranged for its removal to New York .

In Apr 1912, the new owner escorted its treasure aboard a sparkling, new White Star liner about to make its maiden voyage to New York. On the night of Apr 14, amid scenes of unprecedented horror, the Princess of Amen-Ra accompanied 1,500 passengers to their deaths at the bottom of the Atlantic.

The name of the ship was Titanic.

STRANGE CONCIDENCES

On the night of July 1975, a family in the Dunstable area of Bedfordshire were watching the 1935 black and white film about the sinking of the Titanic. Suddenly, coinciding with the sequence in the film in which the ship collided with the iceberg, there was a tremendous noise. A huge block of ice, on that hot June night, had crashed through the roof causing great damage to the house.

On Sunday 14th April young sailor William Reeves was on watch on the prow of a cargo ship on route for Canada. He remembered the tragic history of the Titanic that had sunk on the same day and hour twenty three years before. It was easy to recall for he was born on the exact date of the tragic sinking. He suddenly thought of icebergs and in a panic, and for no reason, raised the alarm. The ship halted only a few metres away from an enormous iceberg. The name of the ship was the Titanium.

The famous novelist Graham Green got much of his inspiration from dreams. Some of Green's dreams contained prophesies and his diaries show that he foresaw the sinking of the Titanic. He said "On the April night of the Titanic disaster, when I was five I dreamt of a shipwreck. One image of the dream has remained with me for more than sixty years: a man in oilskins bent double beside a companion-way under the blow of a great wave."

Astrologer Dennis Elwell noticed that the planetary alignment for March 1987 was exactly the same as it was for the day when the Titanic sunk. "On 18th February" said Elwell "I did something I had never done before in 40 years study of astrology- issue an uninvited warning". He wrote two identical letters to Cunard and P&O alerting them "to the potential hazards locked into the March eclipse". On March 6 1987 the Herald of Free Enterprise, a big seagoing ferry owned by a P&O subsidiary, capsized off Zeebrugge with the loss of 188 lives.

"TITANIC" MOVIE MISHAPS

Only three weeks into the eight month shoot the lead actress Kate Winslet nearly stormed permanently off the set because she believed director James Cameron was a 'perfect tyrant' in overworking her. She claims that she slept only 4 hours per night, nearly drowned twice and had hypothermia. It was only after a humiliating public apology in April that filming was resumed.

But still the film was to be dogged by disaster. The 775 ft model in 17 million in its 17 million gallon water tank was beset with technical problems. And many of the leading actors and actresses nearly died when a disgruntled member of the 1,000 extras and 800 crew poisoned the lobster chowder. Even the opening premier was a disaster when Kate Winslet couldn't make it because of a mysterious stomach upset.

FAST FACTS

The location where Titanic sunk is 41° 46' North and 50° 14' West. Titanic's latitude of 41.76° (41° 46') N is 1 degree away from 40.78° (40° 46') North Latitude.

From records on the sinking of Titanic, it is known the ship struck an iceberg between 11:45 and 11:50 PM on April 14th, 1912 and disappeared below the surface of the Atlantic at about 2:20 AM on April 15th, 1912. The times stated were based on "ship time" on the Titanic. On a ship, "ship time" is set to noon when the sun is directly south of a ship on the longitude meridian where the ship is located. This "ship time" would continue until noon the next day when the clock would be reset. According to historic accounts, the Titanic was 27 minutes behind the actual time on April 14th and 15th, 1912.

The following information was originally inputted into a Planetarium program called SkyChart to map the sky during the sinking of Titanic;

Hours East of Prime Meridian = -3
Ship Time when Titanic disappeared = 02:20:00 AM
Local Time when Titanic dissappeared = 02:47:00 AM
Date = April 15th, 1912
Latitude = 41° 46' North
Longitude = 50° 14' West

In order to make the sky appear in the proper format in the Sky Chart program the following attributes were set.

Horizon Masking = Off
Grid Lines = On
Horizon Center = West
Degrees of visual perspective = 180 Degrees

The time noted in Titanics logs as to when the ship struck the iceberg was somewhere between 11:45 to 11:50 PM ship time.

According to evidence and studies of the wreckage of Titanic, the iceberg tore several ruts in the right side of the ship below the waterline. This would cause water to fill the first five compartments. According to ship designer Thomas Andrews the ship could stay afloat with four compartments filled, not five. Once the fifth compartment filled with water, as Andrews pointed out to Captain Smith, the ship would surely sink.

CONCLUSION

When Titanic struck the iceberg within the 11:45 to 11:50 PM time window at 11:49:32 PM Titanic Time on April 14th, 1912 or 00:16:32 AM Local Time on April 15th, 1912, the star Sirius was 19.5 degrees below the Western Horizon.

The mummy, Princess of Amen-Ra (you remember her from the top of this page) was a princess who's name was created during the Egyptian dynasty which worshipped the god Amen-Ra. According to Egyptian Mythology, Amen-Ra was created as a link between the Amen dynasty and the old Ra "sun god" dynasty of Egypt. Amen-Ra's consort (or female counterpart) was identified as "Mut" or the "Great Mother". The predecessor of "Mut" that also symbolized the "Great Mother" in Egyptian mythology was the goddess Isis from the Isis & Osiris era. Any of the "Great Mother's" daughters would also be identified with Isis by association, therefore Princess of Amen-Ra was also symbolic of Isis. The Princess of Amen-Ra was placed on board Titanic at the beginning of the voyage. In Egyptian mythology the goddess Isis is symbolic of the star Sirius!

The Princess of Amen-Ra mummy was taken on board Titanic by William T. Stead, a writer and peace activist who was traveling to America to take part in (get this) a "peace conference" at Carnegie Hall on April 21st, 1912 at the request of President William Taft. Stead had written several articles including a fictional story of a ship accident and massive loss of live due to a shortage of lifeboats.

This story, written on March 22nd, 1868 by Stead would later be followed by two more stories, one story written in 1892 in the "Review of Reviews" regarding the fictional story of a clairvoyant riding a ship called "Majestic" who senses the loss of a "White Star Line" ship that collided with an iceberg, and then a novel written in 1898 called "Futility or The Wreck of the Titan" about a large steamer that collides with an iceberg and takes many of its passengers to their deaths.

With all of these stories being written about a large ship hitting an iceberg and massive loss of life, one has to wonder if all of these stories are mere "coincidences" or that it's possible the disaster which occured to Titanic was planned years in advance with absolute precision to geographic location and the position of a particular star called Sirius.
