I believe...

in the love of the Triune God: The Father, Creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.

I believe...

  • ...in one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In this Trinity there is none greater or less than the other, but all three are coeternal together and coequal. To believe anything other than that there is one God, revealed in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is in error.
    (Matt 28:19) (John 10:30) (John 8:19) (John 1:1-3) (Eph 4:5,6) (2 Cor 1:3)

  • ...in the Lord Jesus Christ, God's only-begotten Son, His virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death for our sins, and His bodily resurrection.
    (John 1:1-3,) (Matt 1:18-25) (2 Cor 5:21) (1 Cor 15:3) (John 20:9,19,20,26-28)

  • ...in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, the one who brings life, faith, and comfort.
    (John 14:26) (1 Cor 2:7-10) (2 Cor 4:13)

  • ...that man is saved by grace alone through faith alone, and nothing of man enters into his salvation; it is a free gift. Man's efforts regardless of how good or well intended, before or after salvation, have nothing to do with it.
    (Romans 10:9,10) (Eph 2:8-9) (Gal 2:16) (Romans 11:5,6) (Col 2:13,14) (Titus 3:4,5)

  • ...that the bible, both the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and are without error in their original writing.
    (2 Tim 3:16) (2 Peter 1:20,21)

  • ...in the bodily, personal, imminent return of the Lord, Jesus Christ
    (1 Thes 4:16-18) (Matt 25:31-46)

  • ...the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, as outlined in three creeds written by the early Church: the Nicene, the Apostles', and the Athanasian creeds.

I believe ...

The teachings of Martin Luther, and the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, can be stated in The Lord's Prayer, The Ten Commandments, the three creeds written by the early Church:
the Nicene, the Apostles', and the Athanasian creeds and these three short phrases:
Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone. (Eph 2:8-9) (2 Tim 3:15,16)

  • Grace alone - God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly. God freely gives or bestows His love and forgiveness to all people, even though they have no claim on His grace and do not deserve it.

  • Faith alone - By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. We are saved simply, when we believe and trust in Jesus Christ alone for our salvation, and not in ourselves or what we do, or how good or bad we have been.

  • Scripture alone - The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine. This means that our teachings are based on Scripture, and not on the weights of tradition or the strength of human reason.
