My name is Mike Klepac and on
Monday, September 17, 2001 I learned that I had been selected for the Naval Flight Officer
(NFO) program in the Navy. On, Friday, September 21, 2001 I
was sworn into the Navy. I will be reporting for active duty on February 9, 2002.
I wanted to create this web page to
document the process off applying to the Navy so that others will know what to
expect.
I had an opportunity once to join the
Air Force and I turned them down because I -thought- I'd enjoy working as a computer
engineer in the civilian world. As time went on, I realized that I may be passing up
the chance of a lifetime to serve my country and to show the United States how proud I am
to be an American citizen. I am grateful that I realized this while I am young
enough that I can apply again to be among the honorable men and woman who fight for our
country's freedom each day! I am asking the Navy to give me a chance to serve my
country by allowing me to first take part in OCS and then continue my education to become
a Naval Flight Officer.
My OCS application was sent to the Navy
Officer Selection Board the week of September 4, 2001. It will take about 2 weeks to
get the results. Be sure to check back to find out my status! **UPDATE
-- September 17, 2001, I heard from Lt. Gilchrist that I have been accepted for the NFO
program in the NAVY!!**
To the left of this page are my NAVY
related links. Please click on each link to learn more about the NAVY and the
process I am going through.
