Childress , died in this place on the night of the 29th of June in her 57th year. The deceased has been in bad health for a number of years, and her death was not unexpected. She leaves a number of relatives and friends to mourn her demise. She was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Kingston, Roane, Tennessee. She was married to Samuel Lewis Childress on 7 Jan 1833 in Kingston, Roane, Tennessee. Samuel Lewis Childress was born on 13 Oct 1807 in , , Virginia. BIRTH-PARENTS: photocopy in my possession of Martha McCown Childress's He served in the military between 25 Feb 1862 and 18 Feb 1863. Pvt.,Co. F, 5th TN Inf. He died on 27 Aug 1886 in , Roane, Tennessee. Death at Kingston. S.L. Childress recently died at Kingston, aged 80 years. He was a leading republican of Roane county and liked by all who knew him. Crossroads, and then at Harrisburg, Memphis, Athens, Sulphur Trestle, Pulaski,
Spring Hill, and "Middle Tennessee" (Johnsonville? -- rmp). Discharged at
Gainsville, AL in 1865. Received a pension.
The Index to Tennessee Confederate Pension Applications shows that Tennessee
pension application #11495 was filed by A.B. Childress of Gibson County for
service with the 19th & 20th Cavalry.
