He is survived by his widow, Charlotte Anne and six daughters; Rita (Mrs. Allan MacLennan), Ottawa, Goldie Mrs. H. Hastings), Toronto; Edna (Mrs. M. Day), Halifax; Helena (Mrs. P. Carroll), Halifax; Sylvia (Mrs. H. Blumson), Toronto; Marie (Mrs. R. Spidell), Halifax. Another daughter, Verena, predeceased him. Also surviving are five brothers, William, John, James, Edmund and David, and four sisters, Blanche, Maude, Etta and Harriett. Another sister, Elizabeth, predeceased him. The funeral was held from St. James the Martyr Anglican Church, Half Way Cove, Saturday, with Rev. Fraser Bournes officiating.

Interment in St James Cemetery in the family plot beside his wife Ethel who died 19 years ago and his son Fred who died 18 years ago. A graveside commital service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Holy Name Cemetery, Westville, with Father Bedford Doucette officiating. No flowers by request. Services are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville.

Mr. Butts was also an active member of the following Masonic orders, the Thistle Lodge 36, Prince of Wales Chapter 10, Royal and Select Master 7, Cape Breton Preceptory 43, Cape Breton Shrine Club, Phalae Temple Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters. Bill was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Lois (MacKinnon) Swain, and his three children, Roy (Christina), Sackville; Helen, Sackville; and Glenda, at home; grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, James, Cameron, Emily and Laughlin; brothers, Roy, PortHastings; Lester, Port Hawkesbury; Earl, North Sydney; sisters, Myrta (Butts), Glace Bay; Jean (Mrs. Doug Gray), Halifax; Glenda (Mrs. Curtis Langley), Halifax.
