Lindsay Marie Rivard was born Oct. 11, 1992.
The daughter of a sailor who was always moving from place to place,
Lindsay was born in San Diego,  California.
Just one smile from her gave us sunshine.
She was very bright and energetic, and happy and talkative.
Lindsay loved horses, puppies, Rugrats and Nickelodeon.
She loved unicorns, beanie babies, my little ponies and playing Nintendo.
At the age of 5 she became an excellent rollerblader and
mastered riding a 2 wheel bike.
She excelled at everything she tried and she would have been an
accomplished astronaut, a terrific teacher or a marvelous mother
if given the chance.
My beautiful Lindsay turned 6 on 10-11-98
and a week later started having flu like symptoms.
It took the doctors a month to figure out  she had a brain tumor.
They removed her tumor (Medullablastoma) on Nov. 17, 1998.
They claimed they got it all out.
She underwent the typical protocol of radiation and chemo
until the summer of 1999.
She seemed to be doing well.
She was back on her bike and swimming and having
a great time with family and friends at the beach.
Then one day she looked at me and said "Mom I hope this
cancer isn't back."  The headaches were back.  She knew even before we did.  It
had returned as Leptomeningeal sarcoma which attacks the meninges (lining of
the brain).  We went to Wash.  DC for a last chance consult with Dr. Packer
who told us there was nothing else we could do for her.  The last thing she
told me was "I want to go home Mommy."  So that's what we did.
We had a month of home hospice before she left us on Oct. 7, 1999,
four days before her 7th birthday.

Lindsay's last year will always be very special to all of us.
While amassing numerous days of hospitalization,
she played with best friends and cousins,  enjoyed visits from grandparents,
uncles and aunts.  Our entire family enjoyed a very special
"Make a Wish trip to Disney World".
She was truly a celebrity all over Orlando.
From the Hard Rock Cafe to the back lot of MGM Studios Lindsay was a star.
A vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina,
followed by hanging out at the beach house in Sandbridge, VA
rounded out a  very busy summer of 1999.
This special angel showed us what courage is all about.  Through all of
her suffering she rarely complained and often struggled to keep up with the
rest of us.  Her strength and love were her greatest  attributes.
Through the events of her last year with us, she will certainly now hold
a special place in the hearts of all who have met her.

We love you and miss you Lindsay!!

LINDSAY

You were born a gift of God,
A beauty of the heavens,
A shine of perfection,
That hadn't yet reached seven.

Your loving smile and gorgeous eyes,
Will fulfill my heart with our last good-byes.
I'll think of you daily with every step I take,
Living everyday with the image of your face.

A golden angel, with wings of purity,
Staying in my heart living for eternity.
You're in a better place now,
Living with the Lord.
Living everyday with all our
Precious memories stored.

A life of courage,
A life of grace,
A beauty of perfection,
Upon your gorgeous face.
