Inuyasha Terms These are terms commonly used in the Japanese version of Inuyasha. Some of them may also be used in the English version...I don't watch it so I'm not sure. |

Inuyasha - Inuyasha's name literally means "Dog Demon" Hanyou - Half Demon. Inuyasha is a Hanyou because his father was a demon and his mother was a human. Youkai - Demon. Sesshoumaru is a Youkai. Hiraikotsu - Sango's boomerang weapon. Tetsusaiga - Inuyasha's sword. It literally means, "Iron destroying fang." Has the power to kill 100 demons at once if used properly. Tenseiga - Sesshoumaru's sword (one of them). It Literally means, "Healing Fang." It can't kill, and it has the potential to bring 100 people back to life with one swing if the user wishes it. Toukijin - Sesshoumaru's other sword. It can kill and is very powerful. Shikon no Tama - Jewel of Four Souls. Shikon no Kakera - Shard of the Shikon no Tama. Miko - Priestess/Shrine Maiden. Kikyo is a Miko. Taiji-ya - Demon exterminator. Sango and her family were demon exterminators. Osuwari! - Kagome uses this word to subdue Inuyasha. Kazaana - The name for the hole in Miroku's hand. Houshi - Buddhist monk or priest. Miroku is a Houshi. Ningen - Japanese for "Human" Oni - ogre/demon The Warring States Period/Sengoku Jidai - 1467 to 1568 - This was one of the most violent times in Japanese history. Local officials established their own rule over areas and then fought for power among each other. Inuyasha takes place during this time. |
