IPMS Manila, Philippines - Our History
IPMS Manila, Philippines was initially conceptualized last August 2003.  The idea of forming the club in the northern part of Metro Manila was introduced byMr.Chris "Tiny" Jueco.  Mr. Jueco invited Mr. Noel Carpio to form the club which was meant to reintroduce plastic scale modeling to grade school children from Hope Christian Academy. This idea angered the officers of IPMS Bert Anido Chapter, who wanted all modeling clubs under their single umbrella. Noel Carpio and Jun Villalon were expelled from that club. Tiny Jueco later resigned from IPMS Bert Anido Chapter.

During its initial stage, Mr. Jueco and Mr. Carpio had difficulties in expanding the club beyond the restrictions of the school. Realizing that more individuals not from the school were interested in joining the club, Mr.Jueco and Mr. Carpio decided to form "IPMS Fairview Chapter" recruiting new members through the Special Toy Center at SM Novaliches Mall. To formalize the club further, Noel, Tiny, Mike Jorge, Jun Villalon and Frank Lopez filed for a charter from IPMS USA. During this period, some members of IPMS Bert Anido Chapter continued to malign IPMS Manila and tried everything to discredit it. By January 2004, the club was made a charter chapter of IPMS USA and was given the name "IPMS MANILA" under IPMS USA's Region 9. IPMS Manila became more active in recruiting more modelers from Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces. Today, IPMS Manila is a very active member of IPMS USA's newly formed Region 13.

It took these fellows four (4) months to prepare, organize and establish IPMS Manila and turn it into a highly dynamic club as it is right now.  It was in December 2003 when IPMS Manila launched its newly formed organization by calling its first club meeting.  There was a total of five (5) additional pioneer members.  By the end of February 2004, the club has increased its membership to fifteen active members. By the end of May 2004, it has reached more than 40 active members.. It members are from ages 7 to 70 years of age.  Some members are students, professionals, doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects, businessmen, artists as well as retired individuals. Now, IPMS Manila is smooth sailing and continues to be free and an active member of the international modeling community.

The founders of IPMS Manila, Philippines would like to thank Mr. Jeff Herne of New Jersey IPMS for his valued guidance in forming this chapter.  As Honorary Member of IPMS Manila,Philippines, Jeff and his fellow New Jersey IPMS members declared this club their sister chapter.
