Letter of sympathy on death of Bandera vol. Paddy Collins - natural causes in 1939

Enniskeane

8th March 1939

Dear Mrs Collins,

The local members of the Irish Brigade who were Paddy’s comrades in Spain learned with deep regret of his unexpected death. At a special meeting held for the purpose a resolution expressing deep regret at his death and their sincere sympathy with you and the other members of your family as passed.

I was requested to convey their expressions to you. I wish also to tender you my personal sympathy on this sad occasion.

Paddy was a plucky man and a good comrade and we hope he is happy in eternity. May God bless his soul.

I remain Dear Mrs Collins,

Yours sincerely,

Jim McCarthy

Note: McCarthy went onto write a series of articles in the 1960s for the Cork Evening Echo, I hope to add them in the near future as this type of memoir is very scarce.
