LODGE STORMONT - ROSETTA No. 560  Co.ANTRIM
NORTHERN IRELAND
INSCRIPTION ON THE REVERSE - PRESENTED TO W.B. DAVID C. ROBINSON JAN 1930. AS MOST INSTALLATIONS ARE HELD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, IT IS SAFE TO ASSUME THAT W.Bro. ROBINSON WAS MASTER IN 1929. AS THE LODGE WAS CONSECRATED IN 1923, IT IS A PRESUMPTION THAT HE WAS ALSO A FOUNDING MEMBER.
THE JEWEL WAS MANUFACTURED BY SHARMAN D. NEILL Ltd. 'BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS GRACE THE GOVERNOR OF N.I.' DONEGALL PLACE, BELFAST.
Warrant No.560 was originally issued to the Brethren in Belturbet, Co. Cavan on 6th August 1778, but cancelled on 6th July 1815 for neglect of duty. It was revived again on 7th February 1839 by George M. Knipe. (Samuel Knipe was a founder member in 1778, possibly George was his son?) The Warrant was cancelled again on 5th July 1856 for non payment of dues. (During the period 1815 - 1839, Belturbet were possibly meeting under Warrant No.300 which was issued to the 16th Foot (a travelling Warrant.))
Warrant No.560 was re-issued to Stormont Lodge in the Mount Masonic Hall, Mountpothinger, Belfast on 8th June 1923. (In the records of G.L. of I., Mountpothinger was crossed out & replaced with 'Rosetta') The Lodge relocated to Freemasons Hall, Rosetta, Belfast in 1931. The Lodge is still in existence today.
