HIBERNIAN LODGE No.95
CORK, Co. CORK,
S. IRELAND
Thanks to Wor. Bro. John G. for this scan of a Past Masters Jewel from 1859.
The inscription on the reverse reads:- 'Presented by the Officers and Members of Hibernian Lodge No. 95 - Cork to Bro. Robert Butcher WM & PM on his retiring from the Chair St. John's Day Dec 27th 1859 - John Bowen MM Sec'
Warrant No.95 was issued to the brethren in CASHEL, Co. Tipperary on 1st December 1738.
A total of 39 brethren registered up to 1764 when the Grand Lodge of Ireland register shows a new heading - No. 95, Cork, 1st August 1771.
Mrs. Aldworth, the 'Lady Freemason', is reputed to have presented the Lodge with a chair of elegant construction, the first Masonic chair seen in Cork.
The Warrant was suspended by Grand Lodge on 1st October 1857 and was restored on 6th May 1858 as No.95 Cork, Co. Cork 'Hibernian Lodge', a name that it holds to this day.
(William Bowen registered 20th November 1860. [Possibly the son of John, who's name appears on the Jewel]).
