Noach Part 3 Perek 11 Posuk 7 “And confuse there their language that they will not hear a man the speech of his friend” The Rabbis say the reason the generation of the flood was wiped out and the generation of the tower of Babel only had their language changed was the people in the tower of Babel were united. But if so why was Sodom destroyed? The Torah says regarding Sodom they came, “the young the old from all corners of the city”. The answer is at Babel they were only going against G-d. G-d was able to forgive insults to Him. In Sodom they were going against the angels and G-d cannot forgive actions against others. So too when one does not go into the army, others have to do his share. Even if there are persons willing to nullify their time, others do not feel the same Perek 11 Posuk 31 “And he went with them from Ur Kasdim to go to the land of Canaan and he came until Charan”. Charan is not part of Israel. It is in today’s Syria. Rav Issachar Shlomo Teichtel in his book Eim Habanim Hasimcha the Shulchan Uroch for the religious Zionist movement quotes the kabala that any one in Israel no matter how evil he appears must be a tsaddik or the land will kick him out. This kabala is verified by the second paragraph of the Shema. Rav Nachman from the old city in Jerusalem expands on this and states no one comes to Israel G-d brings him. It is interesting to note that on their way to Israel they were sidetracked. The midrash Bereishet Rabba 38 says Terech the father of Avrom was a maker of idols. In other words he was an instigator against G-d. It is written in Perkei Avot Perek 5 Mishna 18 that those that instigate others to do sins will never be able to do repentance. Perek 11 Posuk 32 “And it was for the days of Terech 205 years and Terech died in the land of Charan.” Avrom and his family had started the aliya process but it was only now with the death of Terech, the father of Avrom, that G-d approves the trip and tells Avrom to continue. Rav Issachar Shlomo Teichtal in “Eim Habanim Hasimcha” brings the Kabala that everyone in Israel no matter how evil he appears must be righteous or else the land will vomit him out. Terech had been a major maker of idols. In other words he was a major general in the war against G-d. He also turned over his own son to Nimrod. Obviously he was not the biggest tzaddik even though he was influential in the court of King Nimrod. All too many leaders in the Jewish world do the same by telling their followers to follow the worship of other countries and not defend G-ds court I.e. Israel. A Jew should do what G-d says and wants and not what he wants in the name of G-d |
