So, from my main site you have learned about Maserati's brief history and background. Still thirsty? Maserati since the 80's have completely changed in their ideas for making cars. But then again, times have changed as well. Back in the day, Maseratis were known for their racing success (ever heard of "the Bird Cage"?), and outrageosly expensive coupes and ultra plush GT sedan cars that only the rich and famous could afford. But ever since De Tomaso's input has been adopted, Maserati's are much more mas produced and main stream...especialy now with the new 3200GT (the sleek new yellow car is the spyder version). |

Maserati's line up in the late 80's to mid 90's consisted of seriously fast coupes and sedans and a short wheelbase spyder version. Interestingly enough, all of these cars shared the same chassis and drive train with only differences in engine size! For example, the home Italian and european market got the 2.0 liter (in interest to the "over 2 liter taxation") biturbo coupe while the expot models had a 2.5 liter. These are to very similar cars with diffrent model names, and they did that for the rest of the model line up as well. Although, this can be very useful for buying parts (MIE corp. make reproduction parts and accesories to make this process a whole lot easier!) for these cars because the cars basicaly share parts in the same time periods. This is an invaluable feature because maserati parts often can be very rare and expensive because they were never produced in really large numbers. The only draw back is that you feel like all of the cars are the same and that thought can taint the feeling of owning a car you're not going to see everyday! This is pretty much just for a Biturbo, De Tomaso's creation. Owning an original Maserati with the fine hand made appointments is a one of a kind expierience that I can not be part of because of cost issues. Any of the real Maseratis are really going to break the bank, because the parts and the car won't come around for cheap. |
