The Milano/75: My Favorite Sedan |

Without a doubt, the GTV-6 is the most praised car and most sought after for performance driving by Alfisti. But, if you asked me, I would take a Milano over the coupe anyday. "Why" you may ask? Well, if you add in the practicality of a four seater, the vast improvements over the coupe, and the fact that I have grown (litteraly) to like the sedan's more neutral handling, you would soon see what I see in my twisted mind. The grace and poisee this magical four seater posseses is absolutely marvelous. Words just can't describe the pinpoint precision of the rack and pinion steering unit and how perfectly the tail follows your every command, whether you lift off to conservatively tuck it in, or use the power to sling out the rear end, albeit ever so smoothely and within your reign of control. It's one hellava driving expierience. |
Performance figures for the 3.0 V-6 equipped cars are quite good. Because I live in America, I have no idea how the Twin Spark Alfas drive but I have heard that they seem even more nimble because of the lighter weight of the smaller power plant. With the 2.5 liter engine, acceleration is moderate at best with 0-60 mph figures in the high eight's to low nine's. My family owns one 87' Milano Gold, (which has the 2.5 liter engine) that we have had since new. The car has modest acceleration. When pushed there is some axle tramp on the launches, but i'm sure it could be avoided with practice. One reason the car just doesn't feel as powerful as it should is because of the loss of power through the rear wheel drive layout perhaps. If the driver needn't worry about beating the guy next to him, he could enjoy the absolutely delightful sound the engine makes and drift the car through some nice corners. The interior looks good but it doesn't hold up too well. I particularly notice how the arm rests on all of the doors kind of get mishapen after years of use. The ventilation control pannel has fallen into the dashboard a bit and the radio is still at the very bottom with the ashtray and lighter holding top honers at the top of the complex. |
