I believe that Gladiator was the best movie of 2000. The story is gripping, the acting is terrific, the action sequences are breath-taking, and the ending is perfect. What more can you ask for? Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) is the greatest general of Rome... and Marcus Aurelius's favorite warrior. He therefore decides to hand his place at the throne over to Maximus instead of his greedy son. Outraged, his son murders Marcus in order to regain his position as future Emperor, blaming Maximus for the crime. Maximus barely escapes the call of death, but his wife and child do not. Feeling he has no reason for living, he is enslaved and turned into a surprisingly talented Gladiator. With the help of Proximo, his owner, he makes it to the Collosium in Rome, where he swears he will gain his vengeance. Gladiator is an incredible movie that will live in your memory for the rest of your life.
