The fight between Nada (Roddy Piper) and Frank (Keith David) was only supposed to last 20 seconds, but Piper and David decided to fight it out for real, only faking the punches to the face. Carpenter was so impressed he kept the scene intact. - More recent info actually disputes this but it makes a nice enough legend. The actual fight was meticulously choreographed and rehearsed for weeks before filming. It was a direct intent by JC to get the longest fight scene onto film.
