Taking kite photographs isn't necessarily  about how high you can position your kite...in fact higher isn't really better. For the real KAP effect  the kite rig should be flying at a height of between 100' and 400'. This allows for detailed  pictures not normally able to be taken by ground based  means and low enough to easiliy control the kite.

Taking pictures from a kite really isn't as difficult as it sounds. Aside from the kite, (which must be a capable lifter) the two primary tools are the camera and kite rig itself. The rig is the piece of equipment that allows the camera to be hoisted aloft. There are probably many ways to llift a camera from a kite...all that it takes is imagination and motivation...but the one proven method I use is the Picavet Suspension System. This rig is built around a cradle (where the camera sits) which is suspended by a system of lines from the kite line itself. The beauty of this system is the virtual vibration free platform. The rig is situated far enough from the main kite line that annoying blurring vibrations are almost non-existent which means much sharper pictures. Secondly, the camera is automatically leveled with the horizon.
