THE SKY is not just for kites, although we'd like to think so. Kiters share it with a multitude of other pastimes ranging from RC airplanes to frisbees.... from falconry to wind toys. This section will touch on a few of these hobbies plus more.

THAT'S RIGHT...fishing from a kite has been an extremely popular method of fishing with a fervant few in New Zealand and South Florida for years. Multiple fishing lines from the kite make the odds of hooking up much better....plus the fact that the line can be dropped far from the boat or shore.

When certain anglers in Florida tell you to go fly a kite, they mean go fly a kite. Kite fishing is a very interesting and productive method of fishing and is being offered by more and more guides. Several different kinds of kites are available with Aftco offering one of the best. It's an all weather rip stop nylon kite, designed with water in mind, and dries very quickly. This kite has interchangable cross spars whic allows it to fly in near calm to very high wind conditions. Another very popular kite is the Bob Lewis kite. This is a fabric kite and is the standard for many kite fishermen. They come in three styles...one each for light, medium and high wind conditions.

Live bait is the choice for the vast majority of kite fishermen. A live threadfin herring, google eye or blue runner are the definite baits of choice. The bait is hooked and is suspended below the kite where it is fished in several ways. When the fish of choice comes cruising by and grabs the bait you may hook it and reel it in. You may also pass on that one and what for another. You have the ability to raise the bait out of the water then lower it again which can cause the fish to go into a frenzy. This is an exciting and highly visual method of angling that allows you to pick and choose your quarry. Kite fishing is usually practiced in blue water (deep) but is often used while reef or wreck fishing. It's a very productive way of fishing.....don't tell these fellows to go fly a kite unless you want a filet on the table.

Zing Wings are high performance flying wing toy gliders that are hinged in the center so that the wings may be folded for launch. A heavy rubber band shoots the glider to an altitude of 100' where the wings open after launch speed slows. This is where the glider rises above all others ever produced. Because of its low sink rate and ability to thermal, the Zing Wing can achive flights of over 10 minutes instead of seconds and can thermal to thousands of feet . It is recommended that fliers put their address or phone number on the glider due to this incredible flying ability. The Wings have built in elevons (wing tip flaps) that should be bent to allow the glider to turn in a long circle. Computer designed, this flying wing has to be seen in flight to be believed. They come in 12", 18" and 24" sizes.
