GETTING A HIT COUNTER

A hit counter/tracker will tell you several things (Note: they are different but generally the useful ones will tell you this)  They will tell you what computer hit your page.  What country it was from.  When it hit you.   What search engine did they use and what were the key words they typed in.

To get a free hit counter/tracker you type in something like "free web tracker" on your search engine.

You then click on one of the many possibilities.  Notice that on this one AltaVista found 171 Web pages with this type of information.

You have to decide which one you want.  Some sites review counter/trackers.  These may help you decide.

Your counter will have an image or tag at the bottom of your page.  You usually click on it to access your counter and then enter you Name and or password.

This will then allow you access to information like this:

visit1.jpg (33275 bytes)

visit2.jpg (106448 bytes)

visit3.jpg (56504 bytes)

SOME OF THIS INFORMATION IS VERY ELABORATE.  Some will give you an analysis of what Country hit and how many times they hit.  These trackers allow you to optimize the use of your page.

* TODAY'S Project.  Go to a search engine and type in "free hit counters" or "free web counters" or "free web trackers" and check out the possiblities.  Of the possiblities you write down one of them, the web address, and the major features.  Put your name on your paper and turn it in.
