SCANNER DIRECTIONS

To use the Scanner in the Graphic Arts Computer Lab you must remember that you must log on to Computer #13 with the Community user number and password.   It is #450 and ICE is the password.  You are doing this so you can (from your assigned computer) transfer the image to your own user space.

2. Turn on the computer

3. Log on as User #450 and password ICE

4. Double Click on the Scanner Icon

5. You will now have this window.  In this window You will have this information. (IF YOU DO NOT THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO MOVE THINGS TO GET IT)

     1.  Sharp Millions of Colors

     2.  Scaling: 100%

     3.  Width: 8.51 in Height: 14.00 in

     4.  Size:  1962K

     5.  75 dpi - Millions of Colors

scanr2.jpg (15954 bytes) You Click on PREVIEW and wait for the scanner to scan the image.
scanr3.jpg (4973 bytes) The image will appear in the white area to the right.   With it will also be crop marks.  This is a rectangular or or square box.   You are to move these lines to enclose only the area that you want scanned.
scanr4.jpg (10705 bytes) You will notice that now in the window the Width changes.   The Height changes and the Size changes.  According to this window this picture will be 2.97in wide and 4.11 inches high.  Notice that the size of the file has now changed to 201K
scanr5.jpg (9557 bytes) By moving the scaling bar to the right (very slightly) (compare to the preceding picture) I have changed the Scaling to 218% and the picture will now be 4.84 inches wide and 7.29 inches high.  The file size has changed to 582K

You now click on Final and save your picture with a unique short file name. It will be a windows bitmap image.  You now must:

1. Return to your computer

2. Log on as User 450 

3.  Open Corel PhotoPaint 

4. Open image you just scanned 

5.  Convert it to a .jpg and Save it to your floppy  

6.  Log off as 450 and Log back on with your user number  

7. Open Corel PhotoPaint

8.  Open the image from your floppy 

9.  Save it to your user space.
