This is what we are going to make.

I wrote this tutorial step by step and with screen shots so that a beginner would be able to follow it.I hope you enjoy making this tag as much as I did.
Oh, don't forget to save your work often. Ok, let's have some fun!

Things you need:

*PSP 7 or 8 and Animation Shop
This tut was written using PSP 8
Click here to get a free trial version of PSP and Animation Shop

*Graphics Plus plugin
Click here to download Graphics Plus
Unzip and add to your PSP plugin folder

*VM Distortion plugin
Click here to download the Visman zip
Unzip and add to your PSP plugin folder

*Font and Tube
Shepherds Bush font and the Raggedy Ann and Andy tube
Click here to download them both
Unzip the supplies and open the font and minimize it to your task bar

STEP 1. Open a new image, 500x500 transparent
Open your Ann and Andy tube
Edit>Copy
Click on your canvas then go to
Edit>Paste>Paste as New Selection
Place your tube in the center of your canvas
Deselect
Selections>Select None
Close the original tube

STEP 2. On your layer palette, duplicate the Raster layer three times
Layers>Duplicate
Do this two more times
You should now have 4 layers on your layer palette like this


STEP 3. Rename the Raster 1 layer
Right click on that layer, find Rename then name the layer~ tube 1
Do the same thing with the 2nd and 3rd layers (Copy of Raster 1 & Copy (2) of Raster 1)
Rename those layers~ tube 2 & tube 3 like this


~~Save~~

STEP 4. Make all the tube copies invisible, click on the eye next to those layers like this


Make the last layer (Copy (3) of Raster 1) active by clicking on it
Rename it~ swirl like this


STEP 5.Go to
Effects>Plugins>VM Distortion>Tumbler
Apply these settings:
111, 118, 100, 121~ OK
Go to
Effects>Plugins>Graphics Plus>Peacock
Apply these settings:
91, 68, 44, 91, 34, 180, 181, 195~ OK

~~Save~~

STEP 6. Go to
Effects>Plugins>VM Distortion>Smallpox
Apply these settings:
218, 174, 225~ OK
Go to
Adjust>Lens Correction>Fisheye Distortion Correction
Apply this setting:
Field of view: 28~ OK
Send this layer to the bottom
Layers>Arrange>Send to Bottom

~~Save~~

STEP 7. On the layer palette make all the tube layers visible
Click on the eyes next to those layers so you can see them, like this


We will now resize the tube layers all at once
Make the Swirl layer invisible, then click on tube 1 layer to make it active and go to
Image>Resize
Apply these settings:
85%, Bicubic, Resize all layers checked
By doing it this way, all the tube layers were resized at the same time
Make the swirl layer visible


STEP 8. Using the Move Tool click on the swirl to postion it wherever you like
Duplicate the swirl layer two times
Layers>Duplicate; repeat 2 more times (you should have 3 layers total)
Click on the swirl layer, your palette should look like this


~~Save~~

STEP 9. Go to
Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise
Apply these settings:
Uniform, Noise~ 40, Monochrome~ checked
Click on the 2nd swirl layer (Copy of swirl)
Add noise again only change the Noise~ 48
Click on the 3rd swirl layer (Copy (2) of swirl)
Change the Noise to~ 55

STEP 10. Now were going to add a drop shadow to all of our tube layers
On the layer palette click on tube 1 layer and add this drop shadow
Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow
Apply these settings:
Vert~ -6, Hor~ -9, Opacity~ 30, Blur~ 1.5, Color~ Black


Do the drop shadow for tube 2 and tube 3 layers
**Shortcut** Instead of following all those steps to add the drop shadow, just click on tube 2 layer, then push the Ctrl and Y buttons together, this will add the last step that you just did (which was the drop shadow) Repeat that shortcut for the tube 3 layer

~~Save~~

STEP 11. Now we will add our text
Add a new raster layer
Layers>New Raster Layer>Name~ Text
Open the Shepherds Bush font and minimize it to your tool bar (if you didn’t already)
Make the Foreground/Stroke color~ #BB5256 and the Background/Fill~ #FC695A
Click on the text tool then click on your canvas
Apply these settings:
Shepherds Bush, size~ 72, stroke~ 2.0, anti-alias~ checked
Type your name and click OK

~~Save~~

STEP 12. Add an Inner Bevel
Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel
Apply these settings:
5, 11, 4, -30, 24, white, 315, 45, 47


STEP 13. Apply a drop shadow
Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow
Apply these settings:
-6, -5, 30, 1.5, black


Position your text wherever you like
Deselect
Selections>Select None
Duplicate the text layer 2 times, just like we’ve been doing

**This next step depends on if you're adding a watermark, if not, continue on to Step 15

STEP 14. Add a new raster layer
Layers>New Raster Layer>Name~ watermark
Add your watermark and position it where you like
Duplicate this layer 2 times like above, your layer palette should look like this


~~Save~~

STEP 15. Now we are going to merge the layers
On your layer palette, make 2 copies of your watermark invisible (if you have one)
Make 2 copies of your text invisible
Make 2 copies of your tube invisible
Make 2 copies of the swirl layers, you should only have 1 layer of each image visible
Whew, if you followed me so far, your layer palette should look like this


Merge these layers that are visible
Layers>Merge>Merge Visible
This is what your palette should look like now


STEP 16. Now make your Merged layer invisible
Make 1 copy of each layer visible, like this


Merge Visible again and your palette should now look like this


Are ya still with me?
Do this one more time, this should be your last layer
Make the merged layer invisible and make the rest of the layers visible, like this

~~Save~~

You should now have 3 Merged layers like this


STEP 17. Make all the layers visible
Now save as a PSP file, remember what file you saved it to so you can find it
File>Save As>Name it whatever you like.psp>Save

Now for the animating part

STEP 18. Open Animation Shop
File>Jasc Software Products>Launch Animation Shop
Click on the Browse button find the file you saved your image in and open it (double click on the image)
Go to
Edit>Select All…Animation>Frame Properties
Apply this setting:
Display time~ 8

STEP 19. Now you can crop the image
Click on the crop tool go to a frame, with the left side button on your mouse, click and hold down the button while dragging the box around your image, make sure not to cut off any of the shadowing, release the button when your image is in the box, like this


When you have all of your image in the box, click on the Crop button this will crop your image

STEP 20. Now you can view and save your animation
To view, click on View Animation button to see your tag in action, when you are ready to save it, close up the animation box
To save your animation, go to
File>Save As>Name your animation and save as a GIF file

Viola, and there you have your Peacock Swirl name tag, don't you love it!
