This is what we are going to make, this cute little butterfly.

This is my first pixel tutorial, I wrote this step by step and with screen shots so that a beginner would be able to follow it. I hope you enjoy making this simple butterfly as much as I did.
Oh, don't forget to save your work often. Ok, let's have some fun!

Things you need:

*PSP 7 or 8
This tut was written using PSP 8

STEP 1. Open a new image, 100x100 transparent
Add a new raster layer
Layers>New Raster Layer
Name: Butterfly, click OK
In the layer palette click on the Raster 1 layer like this


Use your Flood Fill Tool and set your Foreground/Stroke color~ #FFFFFF
Click on the canvas to fill it in white (so you can see what you are doing)
Go back to the layer palette and click on your butterfly layer like this


Zoom in to 1000%
View>Zoom>Zoom In By 5 Steps; Hit Ctrl and Y together to repeat the zoom

STEP 2. Click on your paint brush tool
Apply these settings:
Square, size~ 1


Choose your Foreground/Stroke color~ #000000


STEP 3. Make the body and antenna of the butterfly like this


~~Save~~

STEP 4. Make your Foreground/Stroke color~ #D9540B and make the wings and circles like this


STEP 5. Now make your Foreground/Stroke color~ #FB9B67 to make the design in the bottom wings


~~Save~~

STEP 6. Using the Magic Wand Tool apply these settings:
Add (Shift), RGB Value, Tolerance~ 0


While holding the shift key down, click inside the top part of the wings and the little square inside the design, the marching ants should look like this


Use your Flood Fill Tool and set your Foreground/Stroke color~ #FB9B67now fill in the inside of the wings with the peach color

~~Save~~

STEP 7. Go to
Selections>Float
Effects>3D Effects>Cutout

Apply these settings:
V/H~ 0, Opacity~ 100, Blur~ 3, Shadow color~ #D9540B (the same color as the outline of the butterfly)


Deselect
Selections>Select None

STEP 8. Using the magic wand again this time click the bottom part of the wings, it should now look like this


STEP 9. Make the Foreground/Stroke color~ #D9540B (the same color as your outline of the butterfly)
Using the Flood fill again, fill the inside of the bottom wings

~~Save~~

STEP 10. Then go to
Selections>Float
Effects>3D Effects>Cutout

Apply the same settings only changing:
Color~ #FB9B67 (the same color as the design on the bottom wings)


Deselect
Selections>Select None

~~Save~~

STEP 11. Crop your image
Using the Crop Tool with the left side button on your mouse, click and hold down the button while dragging the box around your image, make sure not to cut off any of the image, like this


Then double click in the center of the box, this will crop your image
Now you can delete your Raster 1 layer on the layer palette if you don’t want the white background
Click on Raster 1 layer then go to
Layers>Delete>Yes

STEP 12. Zoom back out
View>Zoom>Zoom to 100%
Save as a JPEG file
File>Save As
Name your tag and save as a .jpg file

Viola, and there you have your cute little pixel butterfly, don't you love it!
You can use these butterflies for anything you like, get creative
