There are 5 white panels and then there's twelve black panels in this series titled: Metamorphosis in black, and a 6' X 9' single panel in black titled Metamorphosis 1, a 8' X 8' and a 6' X 6'. I had intended stretching bigger and bigger canvasses, yeah and bigger. I gave everything about five to eight coats of oil and time to dry in an air tight, air conditioned enviroment with no dust. Space became a very important factor in my art & I needed a lot of it around me. That's when the powers set me packing off to Maine, where everything becomes tiny again. The small mixed media image to your right is what was created as a cut and paste job with the same image taken from its print form from one of original black large panels, and then it was given a black matted finish in Maine. Cut and paste was new to me, but my repetitious flow needed to continue, so I didn't really mind doing all these patterns now tiny. Looking back I guess that was sound logic.

The process history of THEOL and HEALING BALM

The early stages it was a doodle sketch, then a photograph in polaroid, then I began to paint a 3' x 3' very thick oil panels, then 2, then 4, then 6, then 12. It was like composing music. They became the Metamorphosis in blue. From here I rephotographed everything professionally, then placed the fine art in cold storage. After I came to Maine from California and Florida, with only my photos, I made up a board to rephotograph many many sqaures at Generated Images, as it was known at the time, in Portland. Well after spending a few thousand dollars, playing with slides and images, I came to realize I didn't need their computer copy of the multiple image any more that I had made up on white hard foam, as was its process, as I had already 8"x10" transparencies for what I really wanted to do next from the original oil paintings, and naturally the color was better, but it did come in handy to show it for my presentation idea. That's when they turned into lithograph prints from there, in combination with the black panels, as checkers. The prints were created at Penmor Lithographers in Lewiston, Maine. They are also a very special Limited Edition, as many of you may already know something of this history, and well, maybe I shall be able to explain the story behind the history to you some other time. However, it was still part of my own cystalized period as a celibate.

Here are the first six blue panels in oil on canvass titled, Metamorphosis in blue, from 3'X3' panels that eventually became part of the images in the two Limited Edition Lithographs of Theol & Healing Balm.

Color comment.
According to lighting and time of day, the colors change from green tints to torquoise tints. It's quite mesmerizing and effective. Something else happens, the shapes begin to move, and that's how I embark on the next stage. I was fascinated with the movements I began to see in the geometric patterns. Strangely enough, they turned out quite unexpectedly like the geometric patterns I use to doodle as a child. In fact as a child I loved geometry and algebra. There was a connection to a deeper subconscious repetition in the pattern of life.
