JACQUERAY
Jacqueray Bulldogs was started at the end of 1998 with the acquisition of our first Bulldog puppy Troy, whom we lost in June 2005.
We were just interested in getting a Bulldog as a pet, but as he was of show quality, the breeder asked if we wouldn't consider showing him. This is how it all started.  We thought that we would just take him to a few shows to see how things would go, but after the first show the bug had bitten. This is what happens when you get your first Bulldog - you become obsessed with the breed!

Bulldogs are no ordinary dogs and it takes a long time to learn about this unusual man made breed. Indeed you never stop learning. They are also not an easy breed to keep and do not suite every person. After much consideration and due to  the fact that Troy was very lonely, being an only dog, we decided to order a female from the well-known
Troypon Kennel. Chloe arrived in
June 1999 - and now they were two.  As our interest in Bulldogs grew, so did our involvement in the Bulldog world. We began showing on a more regular basis and, after much thought, we bred our first litter of puppies and we are pleased to say were very pleased with our results. It was really one of those experiences in life that we will never forget. We had decided to keep two of the puppies in this litter, of which one is our first bred Champion today,
Jacqueray Flaming Heart.
Our journey in the show ring has continued since that first show, and together with litters that we have produced in the last seven years, Troy, Chloe, Ernie, Sana,Fuji and our baby Doris has become part of our family, not to mention their siblings that are members of other familes.

Our involvement in Dogdom had not stopped at bulldogs. Jacques, had always had an interest in the Pekingese breed and in 2001, JJ joined our family. And like the bulldogs, one is never enough. Today we have five stunning pekingese that create the character of our home.

We have served a few terms on the Cape Bulldog committee and currently on the Pekingese Club of Cape Town committee, but due to a busy lifestyle can only be part on one committee.

We believe, to breed one really needs to produce Dogs of top quality. Bulldogs and Pekingese, like many other breeds, have genetic problems that can be avoided through a very selective breeding program.
One should never consider breeding unless you are improving your breed. Dogs make wonderful pets, but as we have said, do need special care and lots of attention and love.
