A Forbidden Love: The Story of Kevin and Kelly
"You can't help whom you love," said Joey as he left Kelly's hospital room. And the past year Kevin and Kelly have learned exactly that. Their story is not your typical love story. It is truly a story about forbidden love.
Kevin Buchanan has loved. He's loved many and hurt many. But he has also been hurt and suffered many hard experiences that many people wouldn't have to go through in a lifetime. But his most recent loss was the loss of his fiancee, Grace. Grace was the love that Kevin lost one fateful night when hate overruled compassion and Grace died a very tragic death. She died in the dark, afraid and alone. And in the loss of the love of his life, Kevin found comfort only in the bottle and taking unnecessary risks. But Kevin wasn't the only one who lost someone they loved. As he soon discovered, Kelly loved and mourned Grace as much and if not more. Kelly and Grace were long time friends and were like sisters. But Kevin and Kelly were connected more than just through Grace. Kelly by happenstance belonged to Kevin's younger brother, Joey. Kelly and Joey have more history then anything else presently. And though her past has belonged to Joey, it was Kevin that has won her heart and soul.
Kevin hit the bottle hard and every time he found himself in his self-destructing pit. It was Kelly who found him and picked him up. Kelly has known loss in the most tragic of ways having lost two loves her self. And that's a big part of what brought them together. And it's a big part of what will keep them together.
New Year's Eve is a night when everything seems to come full circle. It's the night when people are with the ones they love. People are making promises to each other and to themselves, making resolutions, and celebrating life and what's to come. This night, the night before the start of a New Millennium, is the night that Kevin and Kelly found each other in each other's arms. Kevin hit the bottle hard this night and Kelly doing her best to ease his pain joined Kevin for a drink at the Millhouse. One drink led to another and they talked. They talked about the loss of Grace and after the tears and the pain the comfort they found was in each other. When the clock struck midnight, Kevin and Kelly reached for each other and shared what seemed to be a never-ending kiss. And the passion would have continued until reality hit the both of them hard. Kevin saw the engagement ring on Kelly's finger and remembered this woman was the woman promised to his younger brother forever. Then the guilt set in.
Both denying their feelings claimed the kiss was a hoax, a fluke, and it didn't mean anything. But what about Joey?! They took the easy way out and decided the best thing to do was keep their kiss a secret. But what they soon discovered was that kiss was not just a kiss with no meaning, it was a beginning. It was a beginning of a love that is strong and true and would not be denied.
After that night, Kelly and Kevin talked about their feelings. They met at the Buchanan Lodge and tried to sort it out. It was quite obvious this forbidden attraction was still between them. And Kelly's only desire was to tell Joey. But Kevin was quick to make her see that they could never tell Joey. Kelly left the lodge afraid but hurrying to tell Joey the truth when Kevin asked the question, "What are you going to tell him? Are you going to tell him that we almost made love but we didn't?! Or are you going to tell him that we wished we had?!" Kelly left without saying a word but with the obvious is thought," What am I going to do?"
Kelly confronted Kevin's question in a heated discussion in Viki's office. Kevin admitted to Kelly that the kiss meant something to him and pushed Kelly to admit her true feelings. But Kelly denied any feelings and claimed her love and her heart belonged to Joey. So, Kevin told her that he would deal with his feelings because they were his own and she need not worry about him anymore. That was easier said then done. Because whenever she saw Kevin she worried about him. And before Kelly knew what was happening she was already in love with Kevin. She found herself thinking about him when she was Joey. And one night when Kevin dropped by the carriage house, Kelly admitted to Kevin that what happened on New Year's Eve was not a drunken mistake but meant something to her and she wished they had made love that night. She left Kevin at the door so obviously wanting her and needing her but she couldn't and wouldn't go to him. She went back to Joey.
Kevin and Kelly continued to ignore their feelings. But when Kevin, heard about the wedding date he confronted Kelly about her admission. "How can you tell me that you wanted to make love to me on New Year's Eve and still want to marry my brother?" Kelly's quick reply was, "It was mistake. It happened once. Just once and it won't happen again. I love your brother and I don't want to hurt him." Kevin feeling the same answered, " I love my brother." And then they both concurred that it was a mistake and it was a fluke and nothing happened.
But as days passed and months passed Kevin and Kelly would find themselves alone and so close. One day Kevin was at Serenity Springs in the steam room. Kelly went in there thinking that the Mr.Buchanan that signed in was her Joey. She came in trying to be romantic to discover the man with the towel on his head was not Joey, but Kevin. Kevin and Kelly came close to sharing a kiss that day but Kelly left before they could. This was the day that Kelly sought advice from her cousin Blair. Eccentric to say the least and more than on the risky side then being straight like an arrow, Blair gave Kelly some advice that most would say was not the best. But after Kelly admitted to Blair that all she could think about was Kevin and that Kevin made her feel alive, Kelly made a decision that maybe Blair's advice was the only way she would know for sure if her feelings were real. Blair's advice, "Sleep with him."
Little did Kelly know that during this time Kevin found himself feeling more guilty about his feelings for Kelly as he found out the news that his mother, Viki had breast cancer. And to keep from hurting Joey and to keep the family in a state of unity, Kevin did the unthinkable by deliberately lying and hurting Kelly. Kelly confronted Kevin at the hospital when Kevin had just found out about Viki's cancer. She told him that she wasn't sure if Joey was the right one for her because she continued to have feelings for him. Kevin very harshly told Kelly that he on the other hand had no feelings for her and that she belonged with Joey. Kelly left with tears in her eyes and the feeling of foolishness in her heart. So she went to Joey.
It wasn't too long after that, that Kelly realized Kevin's attitude and his rejection towards her was not real. Kelly was informed of Viki's illness and confronted Kevin outside of Crossroads about his rejection. Kelly pushed Kevin for the truth by telling him, "The reason you pushed me away and the reason you're pushing me away now is because your mother is sick and you don't want to hurt Joey and your family. And you do have feelings for me?! Don't you? Don't you?" And to Kelly's surprise Kevin admitted that "yes" he has feelings for her. So they talked. And they came to the conclusion that Joey needed Kelly and she would be there for him and she wasn't going to let him down. Kelly left the conversation with," So, I think that we should go back to being friends" And Kevin agreed but as she was going to walk away Kevin gave her a friendly kiss goodbye. But as fate would have it, the innocent kiss was witnessed by not such an innocent person, Sophia.
Sophia eavesdropped a previous time knew that Kevin and Kelly had almost made love on New Year's Eve. And she was forever trying to have Joey see their betrayal. But time and time again Kevin and Kelly denied the accusations. Being fed up with the lies of Kevin and Kelly, Sophia was bound and determined to get proof to expose the undying attraction of K&K. Sophia devised a plan to get Kevin and Kelly trapped in a storage room and she would videotape them being together. The planned couldn't have worked any better for Sophia. Kevin and Kelly found themselves trapped in a storage room desperate to get out. But as they were alone the feelings came up again and Kevin and Kelly found themselves in each other's arms claiming that they could never be this close again. As Sophia, in the next room was doing her victory dance that she had all the evidence that she needed, her guilt set in, when Kevin said they had to get out of here because his mother needed him because she was going into surgery for breast cancer. Sophia freed Kevin and Kelly and they rushed to the hospital. |
