System Management-A key to System Stability

In a traditional small and medium business, MIS management is done thru a MIS personal going to individual computer system to check on the hardware and/or software. This way of operating is acceptable for smaller companies, but if applied to a big enterprise, this way will be very expensive and inefficient. For present operation, the server system plays a very critical role for MIS management. With the popularity of internet, servers are no longer is used only for data-sharing and database. They are also used for e-commerce and international sales functions.

Importance of System Management

The traditional way of system maintenance is very time-consuming and inefficient. MIS personnel must first understand the system they are dealing with and then learn how to properly correct the problem found either in the hardware or software. If they need to update or fix the system, personnel will need to open up the system, understand the hardware they are dealing with, find the correct component, replace the parts need changing, and then close up the system.

The advantages ASUS System Monitoring Agent (ASMA) and ASUS System Web-Based Management (ASWM) offer to our clients are systems that omit all the "running-around." With a click of your mouse, our systems present all the important data front of you in seconds. It is quick, easy, and informative.

ASUS's Development in Hardware

Asus has developed a chipset that monitors the hardware system. This chipset is mounted on our server motherboard or available thru PCI add-on card. When selling the whole system, our next generation server will support IPMI1.5 technology.

ASUS's Development in Software

With a world-leading Research and Development team, ASMA and ASWM system management software is completely developed by ASUS. ASMA acts as an agent for system management interface. It collects data from the hardware and transfers it to the SNMP protocol. MIS can install software that can read SNMP protocol to retrieve and read the data it gets from this protocol. ASWM with HTTP protocol to allows users to manage the system thru browser for an easy-to-use user experience.

The advantages of ASMA+ASWM

1. Convenience: Web-based
When you buy a server from ASUS, you can use web browser to view the systems that are located elsewhere. You don't have to go through a lot of procedures to install an application. ASWM provides a very friendly user interface by using pictures and icons, so you can read the information easily.
2. Informative: provides all the information you need
In the section of "System Summary", you can see the whole interior of the system, down to the location of each component. In the "Health" section, shows the temperature and voltage of components; speed and numbers of system fans, and devices' capacity.
The "Inventory FRU Information" section also displays the name and part number of each component.
3. Automatic Update
ASWM can automatically updates data every 5 seconds, saving you the time of reloading the data. A "Real Time Chart" function administrator can run the update for periodically to discover the highs and lows of a particular monitored component.
4. Warning Functions
When there is a data over threshold, ASMA will send a trap. You will see a warning or critical sign in ASWM. The administrator will also get an alert-email when errors occur.
5. Remote Control
The VNC (Virtual Network Computing) Client allows you to control servers remotely. You can turn off, reset, login in, login out, and edit the files and many other things remotely.
6. OS support
ASMA supports Windows 2000, Windows NT, Linux, and Netware, while ASWM supports Windows 2000, Windows NT and Linux.
