James Golato for Bowie City Council
I respectfully ask for your District 2 vote on Tuesday, November 6 , 2007
SUMMARY OF JIM'S QUALIFICATIONS TO MEET BOWIE’S NEEDS
STRENGTH / LEADERSHIP
I pledge not to solicit campaign contributions from developers. They are not spending their money just to contribute to the public interest.

Based on my years in fighting for what I believe in, no one should believe I’m going to be influenced by lobbyists. And, I will stand up against developers who want to trash Bowie’s rights and best interests.

Because public safety and crime are major concerns of mine, I spent many hours on a “ride-on” with county police officers. I obtained street knowledge about what our police officers do to protect us against crime and speeding on our streets so as to better provide the needs of our new city police officers.
Jim Golato deserves your vote for the 2nd district seat on the Bowie City Council because of the content of his character, his intellect and his desire and ability to continue Jack Jenkin’s legacy of service on the city council.

From my service on the city’s Advisory Planning Board I know the limits of the city council’s authority in land use and zoning. However, Bowie should establish boundaries beyond which we would not expand through more annexation and unlimited urbanizing of what is still an attractive suburban area free of the problems of  big cities.

From my past service on the city’ Economic Development Committee, I know that some  businesses expand our tax base, keep our residential taxes down and give our residents good employment opportunities.
EDUCATION
My MBA will help the city decide the best and least costly way to finance the proposed new city hall and police headquarters and to deal with municipal capital financing and bonds.

It will also help to assure city government efficiency in administering city services as well as establishing and practicing  oversight of  the city budget.
I BELIEVE IN:
Limiting annexation and deliberate urbanization of Bowie
inhibiting crime, traffic and speeding on our streets
maintaining green, open space
restraining developers' influence on the city council
YES, I WANT TO HELP JIM!
avoiding major changes to the city's covenants for the Bowie Science and Technology Center - the only land over which Bowie has any control.
