Happy Birthday Mom

Seventeen whole years have passed,
And a few months too

When you brought me to this world,
Knowing life would be a zoo

I was a baby,
Weak and feeble

Yet you loved me,
Though I was little

A toddler I became,
Trouble of sorts

You still were there,
You never left port

You watched me well,
Loved me tenderly

Guided me in childhood,
And defended me

Middle school came,
I said 'no more church'

You loved me so much,
You left the place, though it hurt

Away from common following,
You did turn

I'm sorry that I'm the cause,
As of God I've learned

When I ask you to come,
And see where I go

It's not of cold feelings,
But that I love you so

In high school I entered,
And stopped talking to you

I'm sorry Mom,
That such I did do

Through recent years,
Apart we've gone

It's been so hard Mom,
I want back that bond

I need your help,
In my life

You know me so well,
Even more than I might

As I read this poem,
Tears you might show

And that's alright,
Because I do to, so you know

On this day,
April 23rd of 2004

It's your grand 41st,
Happy birthday and many more

When we fight so oft,
I pray that we have another chance

So that when time comes,
Our part will be a loving dance

I love you Mom,
More than you'll know

I've done this for you,
To help my love show

You're dear to me,
I'm thankful for you

You've blessed my life,
That is very true

I hope this day's been good,
With fun time so far

But if it hasn't been,
I'll take you anywhere but the bar

Thank you Mom,
For your love

You've carried me,
Let me fly like a dove

If you love someone,
They say to let them go

And if they come back,
Then their love you'll know

Now back I return,
To have that bond

That forever binds,
A child and its mom

Let us be there,
In good times and bad

Help each other out,
When happy and sad

I'm thankful for you,
And the love that you've shown

I hope that you can see that,
As to you I've written this poem

Happy birthday Mom,
I love you

Now enjoy this day,
In happiness true

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Mom,
Did I say that I love you?
