Eger is a small wine-growing town in the north of Hungary, and the birthplace of my friend, Ági. Its most well-known wine is Bikavér (Bull's Blood). The wine is connected in history and legend to the Siege of Eger in 1552, in which 2000 defenders successfully held out for 39 days against a Turkish force of at least 40 000. |
