59 Banks Road, Sandbanks, Poole
						Sandbanks is a long sand spit extending across the mouth of Poole Harbour. It first began to be developed in the 1920s (although the road was laid out in the 1890s), and along Banks Road - the main road that runs along the centre of the spit, with beach on one side and sand flats stretching into the harbour on the other - there are several Deco-style houses, hotels, and blocks of flats. No.59 is perhaps the most striking of all, with its curves, swooping roofs and dining-room floor which seems to be entirely glazed. I'm not sure of its date; '30s or '50s would make equal sense, though somehow it looks a bit later. Pevsner speculates that many of the Sandbanks houses would have been designed by AJ Seal & Partners of Bournemouth, who were responsible for the Conning Tower round the corner, but I'm not sure. Look out for the very humble little 89 Banks Road, also Deco but a far cry from the big flashy buildings at the north end of the peninsula. There are good modernist buildings along Panorama Road, too, from the '30s and more recently.
