This building sticks out very incongruously among the Victorian and sub-Victorian drabness of most of this part of Bournemouth, with its curves and staircase tower looking like a piece of architecture left behind from a forgotten airport long since built on - as though it was here first rather than the other way around. I wonder what it was before the motor spares business moved in? It's too short for a cinema.
Other interesting Deco buildings nearby are the massive towered frontage of Woolworth's at 607-615 Christchurch Road (which very clearly was a cinema); and Classicist pilasters and motifs at nos.673-677, which now house the Sir Percy Florence Shelley pub and Olives Restaurant. |
