FACTS ABOUT LIFE UNDER SADDAM HUSSEIN Saddam Hussein seized power in 1979. The list of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Saddam Hussein and his regime is a long one. It includes: -The use of poison gas and other war crimes against Iran and the Iranian people during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war. -Crimes against humanity and war crimes arising out of Iraq's 1990-91 invasion and occupation of Kuwait. -Crimes against humanity and possibly genocide against Iraqi Kurds in northern Iraq. -Possible crimes against humanity for killing political opponents in Iraq.

PORTRAITS: CHILDREN'S LIVES WITHOUT HUSSEIN                   Ali Muhther Ali Muhther is 13 years old. He lives in Baghdad. He would like to be a doctor when he gets older. His life has not really changed much. Since the fall of Saddam Hussein, it?s been chaos. But many people's lives are better.                     Ali Khala Ali Khala lives in a middle-class neighborhood in Baghdad. He says that life is much better now that Saddam Hussein is no longer in power. "Saddam Hussein was cruel to many people", but life is better now.

HOW IS LIFE BETTER FOR                          CHILDREN? Life is better now because there isn't as much violence anymore. Most people's lives are now much better now that Saddam Hussein is not in power any more.
