who is this wurst called ARJUNA?
Arjuna is Jamil Ahmad eccentric extraordinaire.Born in Taiping to a Railway Station Master and a Javan-sino Housewife.Brought to this Earth on January 1953 at Padang Rengas Perak  he spends his childhood days in Tapah Kuala Kangsar and Taiping.
To be exact Kampong Lalang  his birthplace is about 2 mile from Padang Rengas Perak. As far I know   this kampong is the abode of migrating minangs from the suku biduanda from Rembau. His early childhood  prior to  1958 is spent in Taiping where his father was the asst Station master. His fondness to his grandma Halimah see him spending more time in the kampong if not in Taiping.
Then in 1958 his father was transferred to Tapah as the Station Master. In 1959 he entered standard 1 in Tapah Primary school somewhere near the hospital now.Little did he knew that in 1986 a traumatic event will make him visit this quaint town again and again and that it will change his life thereafter. In Tapah Road about 11 miles from Tapah he used to go to Teluk Intan by train since Teluk Intan was quite a busy port then bringing goods especially fruits and vegetable from Cameron Highlands. The presence of British military personnel is still vivid in his memory since the state of Emergency then was still active.Scenes of British soldiers with sten gun guarding the late Tunku's visit to Tapah Road Railway Station is still fresh in his mind. His late father was a proud man he can recall .
Midway in 1959 his father was transferred to head the Kuala Kangsar Railway Station. He recalled staying in a red brick quarters.A memorable event was when this precocious and pretentious nut went AWOL.He actually followed his elder cousin to his kampong in Padang Assam some 7 miles from home.He went swimming and fishing and rambutan picking. That made the whole family went berserk. His father then acquired the assistance of a consultant  a BOMOH lah to seek the whereabouts this problem child. This is what the BOMOH had to say"Dia kena colek oghang Bunian.Dia oghang nak nikahkan dia dengan putri bunian"Phew! That early huh?See sex education could not have come earlier than standard one then..
In 1960 his father got transferred to Taiping as the Station Master. His address then was 57 Station Road.from 1960 to 1968 he moved house to 14 Station Road near the St Georges School. Many fun times growing up with the Beatles and the likes.Primary school at King Edward Taiping was a great experience.
in 1967 Form one.Birthday bash for Hisham my nephew
1960's brings a lot of memories to arjuna. His schooling at alma mater King Edward 7 Taiping shape him what he is today. It is here his eldest sister and 2nd eldest got married. The wedding was so grand back then with brass band and the lot.But he was concern of playing around with the neighbourhood kids. His infatuation with Peta the Eurasian who happens to be  his best pal Leon Tang's sister staying at Cator Avenue in 1965 remains vivid in his mind. The Beatles "Michelle"was the hit then. The 60's also introduce him to the local 60an scene.Taiping export in music scene was the Tornadoes,The sharks and of course Malaysia's first Elvis Impersonator the late Rocky Teoh.

In 1968 his dad retired and moved to Aulong. There he made lots of friends and second puppy love..Already into Secondary school the May 1969 tragedy is still vivid in his mind.Aulong is a new village. But his best friend then are non malays and that shaped his liberal thinking. He listen to radio RAAF Butterworth and asked to be called Jamie to his non Malay friends. His best friend then was and still is A.Kathirasen now with New Strait Times.
He lost a chinese friend through pneumonia. The Malaysian Certificate Examination result in 1970 saw him passed with flying colours together with 2 other Malay friends. One is Shahoran Johan Ariffin and the other Dato Aziz Salleh of Panasonics Malaysia.Form Six was also memorable for the first time he sits in a coed class. All havoc run !But he stayed cool and avoid the fairer sex.Wise guy.
In 1973 he succeeded in enrolling to the prestigious University of Malaya to do Geography.
