Sorcerer Hunters

Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Comedy

Intro: A band of five heroes protect the commoners from evil sorcerers.

Background: Began as a manga, doesn't follow exactly due to having a couple of the other popular characters in for the whole story.

Brief Story Description: Carrot, Marron, Tira, Chocolate and Gateau make the Sorcerer Hunters (well, there's other bands of sorcerer hunters, but theirs is most important). Together they work to defeat evil sorcerers that are opressing those who do not use magic (there are a few good sorcerers here and there too). Through these experiences they grow as a team.

Story: 6 or 8/10 This is hard to decide, as the story starts out with just a bunch of funny missions, each one being wrapped up by the end of the episode. There's not much of any plot development. But by the second half of the series, the "Spell Wars" half, the plot develops significantly, and one is more intrigued to know what's going on.

Characters: 6/10 The only characters I really care for are Carrot and Big Momma. Carrot is the character who undergoes the most development (though it's not always obvious) and Big Momma is an important motherly character. The others aren't bad, they just never grew on me that much.

Quality: 6/10 An older animation, it was brought overseas in 1998 or '99. So it's not the best animation, and there's a few cheesy transformation scenes with Tira, Chocolate and Carrot. Sound quality isn't as good as today's releases either, though the English voice acting gets better (or at least it grows on me more) as the series progresses.

Music: 6 or 8/10 Again, this is hard for me to decide, there's a few tracks that I don't care for and then there's a few that I love. I like the opening theme, but the ending theme is probably my favorite, it has a very 80's feel to it.

Little Kid Factor: No, Carrot's too perverted, and some of the jokes can get rather sexual at times. There isn't much nudity, but Tira and Chocolate probably count for fanservice. There's a bit of language and violence, but nothing traumatic in those areas.

Bottom line: Worth a try, the "Spell Wars" half is quite good. And while there is a level of cheesiness, there are a good number of warm-hearted scenes that can just make a person feel good. It just needs time to grow on the viewer.
